buck custom shop bowie question

I was hoping someone could shed some light on a question I have? My father, who recently passed, had a bowie knife custom made when I was young. Much like everything else in his life he was a perfectionist and instead of sending in a diagram or taking about specs over the phone he sent in an exactly carved wooden replica of what he wanted. The Bowie blade is approx 12 inches long. I currently have the blade but I was hoping to get the history of the knife and possibly it's maker name. I know it sounds hokie, but some of the fondest memories I have of my childhood are running around with the wooden model pretending that I was fighting off "the bad guys"! Lol. Anyhow thanks in advance for any info. Btw, I don't know if it helps, but the only marking on the knife are my fathers name (engraved) buck custom u.s.a (stamped) with the number 1 (engraved) below it.

Buck's Custom shop started up in Jan. 1981 and was ran by Mac Mckinney for the 12yrs. of its existance. The 1st knife grinder hired for this shop was Leroy Remer. The first 200 knives crafted in the shop were stamped Buck/ USA. About 4mos. into it the stamp was changed to Buck/Custom/USA and remained that way until it closed. The number indicates this one was the first of that style and pattern made. Perhaps the only one! For the first six months the shop produced satin finished blades, thereafter every knife was mirror polished and of 440C steel. Look closely over your knife as many have the makers initials hidden somewhere on it. This should have been posted in the BuckForum. DM
