Good evening,

I am looking at the Buck custom shop to order a Ranger or maybe a 110. (Have not decided which one yet!) there is an option to have the handle with no rivets, but in this case how are the scales held on?

Thanks David. So are the rivets decorative only or are those pins if I go that route?

Ernie, If the knife has the rivets, those are used to hold the slab on. If the knife has NO rivets, then glue is utilized to hold the slabs on. DM

Mine is not a custom and has rivets, I often wonder if the are glued as well as riveted because they have never appeared to be loose.
For what it's worth I like the 112 better than the 110. My dad has a 110 he got in the Navy in the 60's, my uncle gave me a 112 20 years ago. To me I like the shorter blade of the 112, of the many critters I have been hands deep in I have never needed a longer blade.

There was a time Buck glued on the slabs during production. But it was during the 2 dot era that the practice departed. I have wondered if the custom knives were different and both were utilized. Until someone here who purchases them said it wasn't the case. DM

I would go for the 112 for sure if it was available with nickel bolsters, only having the option of the brass makes me pause. I am still debating, because I like smaller sized knives usually. The 110 with nickle bolsters, finger cut out and Rams horn sure looks great!
