When I asked the seller if this work was done at the Buck factory or if it was aftermarket. He replied "straight from the factory"..

Any opinions ?? I'm guessing the knife is "straight from the factory".. The scales ? I doubt it..

Maybe Joe could chime in on the authenticity of the claim..

Hi sugarfoot,

It maybe straight from the factory....the one that did the custom work and voided the BKI warranty!!!! A few of the guys here have bought these after market jobs....see the stamped number on the bolster. This is not Bucks custom work.

Sorry I didn't realize posting that would be an infraction.
I was not trying to promote the sale rather I was trying to expose a possible fraudulant sale..

jb4570: Thanks...

I was quite sure it wasn't a "factory custom'..

There seems to be quite few of these type of sales that describe the item as "from the factory'..

Would Buck have any recourse on these fraudulant claims ??

There have been quite a few of these types of knives, mostly 110's, popping up lately. As noted in previous posts, not a factory job and no warranty.

Joe,

I inquired about these "Limited Editions" a couple of months ago when I "discovered" them on Fleabay. I inquired to the Seller and was told they were "built by Buck at the Buck factory" but were part of a "special factory order" for the Distributor only, who then in turn sells them thru specific "dealers". I was told that the Buck Warranty was still good. Many of these knives even state this in the item description. I can certainly understand how and why Buck might take an order for say, oh, maybe 500 Buck 110s with a specific scale design and sell same to a Distributor who in turn would sell thru his Dealers. Since there are so many of them out there on the Fleabay and all are being hyped as "limited" and even "numbered", I think it would be good business for Buck to make a statement about these knives. This would allow the Buyer to atleast know for sure what is being sold and take some of the mystery out of where these knives are coming from. I have no doubt these are in fact Buck110s, the question is, who and where are these funky scales coming from. I have bought some of these knives and have been satisfied with my purchases but I still wonder about the warranty question. Then again, none of mine are users, just safe queens.

There has been a couple of threads about these most about the 110, it was stated in those threads no warrenty as Buck could not replace something they don't make.
I spoke directly with one of the "makers" who told me they get blanks from Buck and add the handles that they make. The Bucks are new from the factory minus handles...so they are implying that the rest of the knife is warrenty but still Buck would have to agree with that.

Some of them look good some not so good I like some of them and have a few but they are not useres so how good is not such an issue.

I know where you are coming from, but with the individual sellers listing and describing their items there is no way for Buck to make that call on every knife... Its kind of "buyer beware"
If I chose to sell my custom ironwood handled 110's and said factory customs,
They may or may not have the custom stamp and they may or may not be factory customs... If it doesn't have a factory cert from buck, I would guess they aren't. Lots of grey area here when it comes to buying online...
Good luck.

well... its a deep subject some times..
buck sells knives as ordered
example cut out A ---
is avabile as a custom stamped limted edition with spechel order scales
and a serial number

and as a custom stamped and un-numbered blade with std scales
and as a year marked limted edition with serial number and spechel scales
and as a yesr marked std issue in the cataloge with std scales

so that is FOUR ,yes 4 verations of a knife with the same cut out!!!
and i have seen all 4 of several cutouts...
that is why i dont want a year mark on custom stamped blades!!!
some thing needs to be diffrent some how...
or why bother with a custom if it is nothingt diffrent!!!

they need to advertise the knives they make as customised buck knives
which is leagley diffrent then a Custom Buck or a Buck Custom or LE
to me any thing with LE should have a a limited as one of 200
this would conver any veration of that knife
ie LE in cherry /LE in stag /LE in horn... each could be an issue of 200 but only 200 in each dress up !
or as a custom with a Custom stamped balde is #xxx of 200

buck has used the terms buck custom and custom buck kinda of interchangeablely they need to make a defferation some how...
what comes out of the custom shop can be a buck custom
with as ordered by a customer dress up choice
and any knife made as a sale item ahead as a buck custom
so buck custom is made ahead and a custom buck is made to order
and then buck can defend them selves

as to the
rip offs

ther is such a market that buck maby ought to consiter a artherised buck custom shop
this could be any one trained by buck butr lisenced to work on buck knives
either as repair or any knife once sold by buck and handled through buck
ie i can send a 110 in and have the scales replaced he makes a tiny mark on the cotil (?) and if it is sent to buck they send it to him..
but he would be aurtherised to use buck parts and such but have to make a id mark on each knife he does but that it is still under warentty..

as it is now
if i buy a knife from buck a yellowhorse worked knife
it is under buck warentery
if i take and send a knife to yellowhorse to have the same work done
it is not under warentty even tho done by the same man!!!

so to change things yellowhorse would apply as a aurtherised buck customiser and be approved and have a unike mark to put under the balde

and if it is sent to buck they send it to him and he to you...

heck i talk to much ... time for that uhleaded coffie...
