Latest version of BUCK Date Code Guide ;)

BUCKYEARCODEofficial.jpg

We have most of this on a sticky at the top of the Buck Forum page. But not all of what you posted. So, thanks. DM

Thank you. I have a Buck 120 General I am sure that I got in 1972. It has the model number on it, many dating lists say the model number started in 1973, but like I said, I am sure I got the knife in 1972. This list says the model number was added starting in 1972. Now I feel better about my memory.

I added this chart to the date code stickey thread. First time I have seen it.

Thanks.
LarryH.

Please remember that changes usually get phased in across the product line as old inventory is depleted and new inventory is produced. This would be the case with the addition of model numbers to the tang stamps.

I assume that everyone knows that the above photo of the date code chart is from Buck's new website. That said, I am somewhat surprised that no one has commented on the date code of the 119 in the photo apparently being on the wrong side as every date code that I have ever seen has been to the right side of the model number rather than on the left side as it is here. Note that the model number 119 and the date code to the right would be centered on the second line, underneath BUCK, on the tang if this were the case, whereas it is off center with it to the left.

Now does that mean there is a rare variation out there to chase :D - or did someone in marketing not get the word?? To quote the German Soldier on Laugh-In, "velly interesting". OH

This is a test...
do any of you authorities know where buck got the strange symbols for their dating code when they started it ?:p

Are you asking something that you already know the answers?
You can tell by the charts that the symbols started in 1986 after the no dots, and dots.
Over the years, it has been mentioned that Buck decisions are a consensus.

ugh ... YES, Pack Rat, I am ! ;)
was jest wandering if I knew some thing most the guys here did not know
at least I "think" I know the correct answer
that is if I was not told some thing wrong by some one here once upon a time
So .............. any one else know or think they know ?
would like to see what some of the experts or new guys here think on this one

It's an alien alphabet!

Timely post. Can anyone tell me what this one is?

•> ( dot greater than)

I can't find it on any of the lists.

Thanks!

Thanks!

The dot indicates some kind of a change in the design of that model Buck during the year of 1987.

Thanks Stumps.

I guess if it's not in the data sheet that means I have to buy it so we can figure out what the change is:-)
