I just got it at wallmart . I paid 11 bucks for it , not sure if thats a fair price or not . I'm not really sure if thats the going price or if it was on clearence . Anyways I like it alot. I just wanted to ask what they go for and what type of steel is used in the blade ? The blade says 476u is that the steel type ? Its made in Taiwan and the handle dont seem like it will last very long :( . I have to do a little work on the edge ,its sharp but not shaving sharp. Oh if you have one could you tell me how the handle last and how you carry it also . I wanted it for a keyring knife but after putting it on my keyring it seem a little too big .

One Stop Knife Shop has it listed for 16 bucks, and the blade is listed as being 420HC. The 476 is just the model number.
Doesn't look like you did too bad, Buck has a good reputation I bet the handle will hold up fine for normal use.

I bought one to use as a fishing knife. Have used it a few times and now it resides in my brothers Kayak. The handle has held up fine except for the teethmarks from when a pup got hold of it. The knife is fairly rust resistant but will show rust spots if not wiped clean after time in salt water. It's a very good cutter due to the grind. It's also a decent prybar due to the low fear factor caused by it's low price.

The steel is 420HC, a "U" shaped mark on the blade is the mark for a blade made in 1998, unless it´s a squared "U" which indicates 2002, though the mark for 2002 was changed to an anvil shape, I don´t know if there were any made with the squared "U", 476 is the model number for the small diamondback.

I haven´t seen the diamondback but from experience with other Bucks, I´d say it will hold well, I have a mini-mentor which I guess is very similar in size and materials.

At 3 1/4 inch blade it´s much too large for a keyring, but makes a handy belt or backpack knife.

For more info you may want to try posting at the Buck forum.

I've got both sizes and the $11 is a good price. The knife has the same lifetime warranty and is built to Bucks standards. My small Diamondback is mostly used in the kitchen, so its subjected to cutting boards and detergents with no ill effects. Its very easy to sharpen and would make a good starter knife for a youngster to learn proper knifecare on.

Mine does have the squared "U"! I still have it on my keyring . I was thinking it would also make a nice neck knife. They have one more at the store I'm thinking about getting that one also .

Yeh... they've had too on some items to be in the market with Gerber, etc. It's raised alot of eyebrows, but Buck officials have stated publicly that it was this or they would have to discontinue several of their 'economy' items. As long as the quality is there, then I accept it as I accept Spyderco.
