Howdy folks, I bought a 113 stamped custom/ anvil with an eagle NRA stamp on the r bolster. I thought it was water buffalo but when I got it I saw it was Dymondwood. Is Bucks ebony Dymondwood? Thanks

Years ago Buck used real Macassar Ebony. Dymondwood used now is a laminate and, I believe, usually birch that is stained to order. HTH, Preston

Yes the current macassar ebony is a dymondwood type laminate. You see it used on the flat slabbed handles such as the 110, 112, and 113. It is my belief that only the top layer(s) is actually macassar ebony and suspect the lower layers are standard dyed birch. I have no evidence to support my assumption about the lower fill layers.

The NRA used those 113's as a membership promotional premium. I think a build quantity of 20,000 was listed on Special Projects.

This is what I observed also. One can see the outside layer is dark and the inside layers are grayish.

FWIW, my 113 has walnut handles, real walnut, not laminate. Not all handles are made of laminate. Preston001 (800x533).jpg

Yes, I've seen some Buck models made with solid wood handles after the 94 date. Perhaps a special run. A nice photo. DM
