I am thinking about going out and buying a Buck 110 eco-lite and wondering if it is as strong as the normal buck 110.

I don't doubt that they've been torture tested, but the results may not be published.

Try You Tube.

As long as it stays in the realm of opinion, mine would be that there's no way the Lite could be near as strong as the regular 110.

If you're into backpacking would be the only reason I could see to buy an Eco Lite.

Well, the ecolite liner is only a half liner on both sides about center 2.75-3 inches so I would say a full liner would have to be stronger. That being said, I cant think of anything I'd do with a standard 110 that couldnt be done with and ecolite. Maybe get run over by a car or tank or something. If you like the size of the 110 but not that much weight in your pocket, its perfect. I like the weight of a regular 110 and I pocket carry them, but I find myself carrying an ecolite most of the time. I started carrying a 2 dot I had spa'd but now with this unseaonably hot weather, I'm wearing shorts again and the ecolite is back as edc.

Bing! That's the ticket. As strong as a regular 110? Maybe not. Strong enough to handle anything you could throw at it? Damn straight.

Thanks for the great pics, btw, imafritz.

It depends on what you throw at it. It will not take as much as a good brass and wood 110, especially an older one.

To assume you might never need the full strength of the good old 110 might be assuming too much.

Even the tough older models have broken down in various ways from tough use, so it's clear that it CAN happen.

One can never know what highly demanding emergency use might come up.......and at that point--I want the good old brass and wood (and preferably one with two or maybe three dots on the blade).

:)

Another option for you might be the Bucklite III 426. Jump on the Buck website and go to the Web Specials tab.

Only $18 and free shipping if you go over $50. (only takes 3). Embarrassed to say how many I bought.

Its the same blade as a 110 in an ultra light knife. I used a couple of them this past hunting season and they performed just fine. With Bucks warranty, can't go wrong with one as a utility knive. Pics on website don't clearly show the lanyard hole.

For most practical EDC purposes I find the 110 Ecolite and 426 Bucklite to be more than adequete in strength and durability I also greatly appreciate the reduction in weight they have to offer and while I imagine that the old school wood and brass is stronger in every way I believe that the Ecolite and Bucklites strength to weight ratio is much better than the brass and wood 110's. But with these new fangled handle materials you do lose a certain nostalgic aspect of your knife.
