Is anyone else getting email notifications for knives advertised as "back in stock" that are actually sold out, and have been prior to the email being sent out?

I got both of these this morning

And I received this one a few days ago.

I think it's just to get you back on their website and look.
I also think it's intentionally misleading.

Now I know, I can always unsubscribe.

I believe Buck moral compass needs to be recalibrated.
If it's a software glitch, FIX IT!

Thanks.

I agree, haven't paid much attention to what is in stock unless I'm interested(haven't been) but I have been getting many, many, many emails. I think of unsubscribing also, but my FOMO on something like BOTM keeps me from doing it. I just hit delete.

I think they just need to get the kinks out of their new website. I admit to trying to punch the "add to cart" button on the 907 when it said it was sold out. It worked for me once when they were supposedly out of 124s. They also have a somewhat overzealous marketing group. Perhaps they need to send a cookie or two to track that I already got the 10% discount. I agree it is a little annoying to get an email every time you look at the website - I guess those cookies are working. But in the grand scheme of things, it doesn't bother me that much.

I think this is really the issue. Ever since the "new" website went live, it's been a disaster. My guess is that there's a missing link somewhere; inventory numbers should be real-time updated in the site and trigger a "don't send that email" function when depleted.

On a related note, the seeming lack of testing and refinement before the website went live coupled with the fact that there are still regular issues is interesting to see in today's world, where a clean, functional, engaging digital storefront is prioritized pretty highly.

I have a feeling that they may have brought the internet interface commerce job in-house. This way they can customize and react faster perhaps than if they had contracted it. Or they contracted an individual or small group with that responsibility. Either way, that person or small group may not have the resources that larger companies have. I'm not too concerned about it until it deprives me of some rare knife someday. This is purely conjecture on my part. "Dammit, I am a chemical engineer, Jim, not a web specialist." Who gets the reference?

Yes I get emails every time I go look see if something is in stock or just checking specs on a particular knife. I also have received emails advertising new models in stock now and I immediately go check the Buck site and it’s not in stock. I have become numb to seeing these ads because I used to get excited for a model I’ve been interested in and then the disappointment seeing out of stock, check back later.

It might interest Buck marketing staff that I don’t visit their site as often as I used to because of that annoyance. I’m sure others have tuned out as well.

And then that annoying 10% off box that constantly pops up. It just isn’t as fun or enjoyable as it used to be.

Edit to add.
I don’t like being a grumbler because I know they are doing the best they can. I just think maybe if they know what effect it has on their customers maybe they will learn something they didn’t know was happening. I wouldn’t want them to loose sales because of an ad campaign backfiring on them over a web page glitch.

Thanks Les.

Your edit/ add is exactly my point.
I love the company and the knives.
But this website thing is aggravating as heck.

Edit.
I just received another email at 9am saying the 503 mastadon knife is back in stock.

The new website sucks, especially the new "feature" where the original price versus the BCCI discounted price is no longer shown for comparison, you just have to assume that the price being displayed is the discounted price. I want to see how much of a discount on a given knife I'm receiving, and not trust on face value that everything is working correctly on the website. Also, there are knives that are not eligible for the BCCI discount, showing the two prices makes it easier to decern that.

What's the big deal on the new website of not doing that like the old website... as a matter of fact for that matter, why the need for a new website when it seems like the old one wasn't broken?

This and other aspects of the new website (as mentioned above) have diminished my buying practices, as I do not like the feeling of shopping in the dark.

I don’t think they’re “sold out” when email is sent. I think 500 people click the email and a handful of people buy whatever is in stock in a minute or two. But by the time most of us click it it’s gone but the email is already sent.

Nah,
These e-mails were sent 24 hours or more after the knife referenced sold out.
And they do it rather frequently!

The computer knows it's out of stock, but sends the emails anyways.

The constant contact becomes bothersome when it's completely pointless in it's purpose.

I want to also complain. FOMO !

Seriously.

Add the choice of "New" for a search option. Currently you can search by "Featured". The search "Featured" is not equal to "New". This option would make it so much easier to see if there is something I want to buy. For example, in the "Web Exclusives" the "Featured" option is not "New" - the search does not bring up the newest items. The first two knives shown, 112 Lochsa and 102 Woodsman. I don't believe the 102 Woodsman is the newest "Web Exclusives" knife. I believe it is the Kalinga.

Also, is the Lochsa a "Web Exclusives" or a "Limited Editions". It is listed under both categories now. To be specific, Buck says 95 made and Buck sold the knife under Limited Editions. In my mind a "Limited Editions", is just that. A Web Exclusive is an item Buck can always bring back from time to time.

The new site has limited edition, BOTM, web exclusives, Stealth Runs all over the place and intermixed in the categories. There isn't even a category for Stealth Runs. This approach does not create brand recognition or reinforce the exclusivity to anything. IMO.

Thank god, now I feel like I have not missed out ! ! ! ! : )

EDIT: almost forgot - the emails are very 1st world annoying.

And, another thing, on the limited editions page grid, the 'Lochsa' shows as 'sold out' in the grid, while the others like the Mastadon's and 907 do not show sold out there. But, of course, if you open that item, then you see it sold out. It should have consistent behavior. At least when on the same page, all 'sold out' items should show sold out or none should. (I'm a software dev; I know this is possible.)

Thank you for your feedback, King of the Cheese King of the Cheese is correct the new website allows us to accurately track inventory and if we add 1 back into the warehouse it triggers those emails and if someone purchased that model the delay between being sold out again and when the email is sent out is what is generating the email. We are working on a solution to fix the volume of emails sent for sold out inventory.

Folks don't get me wrong, I'm a big supporter of Buck Knives, and believe in who they are.

But I feel that they are stepping over a few lines here.
Maybe it's just me.
But I'm curious whether or not I'm alone in this thinking.

ThaThanks
Say what you have to say. This is a collectors forum. As a collector, your opinion is valid, even if people disagree with you.

I get the emails and still didn't catch a 907. Was at work all day checking on the BOTM. Got home, called buck customer service about some customs I ordered, took a shower, and by 5:43 est, they were gone. I don't allow notifications from email on my phone, so I only see them when I check. Wish the woman on the phone had mentioned it.. lol.
