Great place to find 'experts'. The first knife-seller I quizzed re any available Bucks told me he wouldn't buy that 'junk' because the quality had suffered since they moved from Oregon! Oddly, he loved Gerbers - and had a few, too. He also had the usual PRC fantasy blades - and the obligatory Cases. Several more Bubba's with similar fare yielded similar results. Then, I found some Bucks...

The last guy had a bunch of tables - surrounding him - in the woods. Old display cases - crammed full of knives - rusty/ratty Marbles Fieldcraft/Woodcraft for $130-$200 - "You can't buy them like this no more!" he said. Yep. Then, the Bucks... 110's - a half dozen in one section - his cheapest $70 - highest - $175. Ratty shape would be an improvement - and no box or sheaths. He said "... and they make them in China now - not the same quality!?, as he pointed to the rattiest - and supposedly newest - with fg's - and darkened/chipped rosewood scales, a la, I suppose, the like new $14 tin boxed closeout from W-M I pulled from my pocket to show him... and show him the USA on the blade. He walked away while I was talking. I guess they live off the city yuppee's purchases. Buyer beware!

Stainz

Stainz, I went to two knife shops and a gun show this weekend.....every one was a total rip off. I did not buy a knife at any. The dealers think they know everything but few know anything at all. There was one dealer that I have traded with in the past and he has had it with the others too. I would like to support this one knife shop as the owner is a good guy, BUT his pricing is too extreme. His cheapest 110 was $75 !!!! He has some Italian lock back stiletto style knives ( non auto) that SMKW sold fo $20 and he was getting $75......I did not buy a thing from him.....

I try to buy from a 'local' knife shop (there are only 2 within an hour drive ) or the knife counter at a local sporting goods store whenever possible. Prices at the one shop are crazy high (more than MSRP) but most are midway between MSRP and a discount web seller. Try to keep things in perspective:

1. you don't pay shipping. (save $6-$10)

2. you get to handle a particluar model before you buy it. I've had a few knifes that looked great in a catalog but didn't like when I handled in a store.

3. you can hand pick your knife from the dealers stock so you can avoid lockup issues, un-centered blades, etc. (save $5 return shipping to Buck to get your knife fixed)

4. your wife doesn't get mad about all those packages from the UPS man. (priceless :D)

i was jest at the ohio show and also run in to that most dealers seemed to feel bucks were worth a finger or two... blood at the least ...
but one dealer selling a dubble knock knock off
> culumberland converson and buck both in light etch > and i took him to a real cumberland converson on a real buck that one of the bcci guys had ..
his comment " xxxt ... man - i paid my buddy over 200 on this fake .."

and then he learned that a 124 he had was NOT a verson that buck sold ...
from another club member by the way ... he sold it to me for less then a c-note..
some club members opion is ::::<<<))))
it is a veration by Mchinny or a remote possability Leroy from the old custom shop...
but it may not be so as ever always "let the buyer beware"
dont always belive what a seller says- your own knolage is what you need...
