I saw this posted on another forum, took me by surprise..."from when Buck used to convex their edges".

When, if ever, did Buck convex their edges at the factory???

Bear, Buck convex ground their edges for years...Pretty much from the 60's to the 80's but for sure over 25yrs.. DM

Guys, I'm speaking of the fixed blade knives not as much on the folders. You may call it what you like but the grind is essentially a convex grind with a hollow grind in between the spine and cutting edge. But the cutting edge is certainly convex (very thick and bevelled).Their grind remained this way on fixed blades for 30yrs.. Then after their CATRA testing and other research published, pertinent towards showing how a thinner edge cut better. They changed to edge 2000 in that year. I have many of the older 100 series knives which have the edge I speak of. But you may call it a hollow grind if you wish. DM

OK, the reference I quoted was made specifically about a 422 folder.

I have not handled that many older Buck fixed blades.

Thanks for the info' Dave!

Here's a little more history on Bucks edges, from CJ, scroll down to Post #7:

Wallace, Thank you. I wish I could cut and paste... I'd have to upgrade my membership? I knew I was in the ball park and agree w/ everything CJ said except about 440C rusting. Thanks DM:)

You're welcome David. I remember seeing a post by Joe Houser too, regarding Buck edges, but can't seem to find it now.

I don't think you need to upgrade your membership. I used the link icon above the message box to post the linky to the other post..... click on the earth globe with chain links, then enter the URL from what you want to link to, hope that makes sense.....
