Recently acquired a custom shop 110 stag that has some engraving on the bolster and blade. Considering todays custom shop prices it was a bargain. Does anyone know if the Buck refinishing service could remove the engraving from the bloster? Not sure if I want it removed from the blade as I was told that "Aurora" is the north polar light or the goddess of "Dawn". Knife pictured below:

THANKS. :)

Nice looker!

I'd be afraid that to get rid of that they would have to take off a whole lot of brass!

I've wondered about bead blasting the bolsters on one. That may remove the engraving or surely make it unnoticeable.

Has anyone tried that?

I think on the nickel silver bolsters it could look good.

I wouldn't mess with the blade, just come up with some good story about an evil red-head named Aurora if anyone ever asks :-)

any knifemaker could sand and polish that out of the bolsters and noone would ever know unless they measured it with calipers. The blade is more difficult.

Nice looking 110 topol.

My limited experience with bead blasting it that the metal needs to be fairly scratch (etch) free before blasting or the scratches will show through. If I was to try and remove the etching I would use my belt grinder, gently, then finish with finer grits of abrasive paper. Some blending into the stag scales would be necessary.....

Or, you could just change your name to Haile Selassie Labib....:D

wow remove diamond engraving from a supper hard bg42 blade?
hummmm quite a job..
the brass can be but it looks deep and likely would be noticeable..

but what the hay if it was cheep enough why worry!:)

Yeah Dave, I was referring to the bolster, not the blade......I'd leave the blade alone and name my next dog Aurora...

F.Y.I., I contacted Joe Houser and he said it would not be a problem to remove the engraving from the brass bolster. Knife is on the way to Buck for refinishing.

F.Y.I. 334 Dave....Knife was a bargain. It cost a lot less than just the current custom shop stag option alone.

Looking for a girfriend named "AURORA". ;)

Yeah that was a deal! I hesitated a tad too long ;) I would have had to explain the "Aurora" engraving to the wife, so I had to weight my options carefully ;)

Congrats thats a real beauty!

You guys worry too much about women....nearly every state has a city named Aurora ..... "that's the town the guy lived in I bought the knife from" ;):) did I say Colorado...no,New York, no Ohio, no Illinois

Not that I am suggesting any thing here...but...... try places that use the term......."On the Main Stage.....Aurora!"
Again, not a recommendation....just do what I can.

Dave

Chickentrax....I like the Air force project suggestion....lot cheaper than a new girlfriend too!!! :D

But I was a Marine and my friends know that....I'll have to say I was a security guard at TOP SECRET Air Force Project Aurora.....and commanding general gave these out as a token of his appreciation.
