I've been in Colorado backpacking and decided there was still too much snow left in those mountains at 11,000 to 13,000 foot elevation.

I live in Florida, but since I was out this way, I decided to go to Post Falls and visit the Buck Factory. (it wasn't THAT far out of the way) :)

I have an appointment on the 14th at 2pm for the tour. Can't wait!

it is so cool to watch bucks being made!!!

wow and it was only 85 degrees in ocala yesterday
and you are looking at Z snow!!!
you will have a good time there
watching some ones buck being made!!:D

when you go in ask if Joe or CJ are around ;)
if they are not busy i am sure they could find a moment to say hi!!

one of the things "they" have thought of doing is
when the bcci has an event there again to
let folks walk along and watch THEIR buck 110 being made
Right in front of them!!!
this was being discussed as a possibility during the
blade show by bcc officials and CJ !
i think some one said it takes about 40 min start to finish
for the 110 as you follow it along
so if you are a bcc member let your elected officals
( 300 bucks hangs here some times) know if
you would like this to happen

i highly suggest buying the dvd about buck at the store
it will give you some great visuals of how its done
and good information on buck in general

a 110 takes about 6.5 minutes to get through the shop, not 40 :)

Stumps, probably too late for you to see this , but ask for me after your tour and I'll come meet you.
That goes for any of you that might visit us...

That was an excellent tour!! I can highly recommend anyone coming to Post Falls take the tour.

If you do come, they give three tours a day on Monday through Thursday. I would call in and reserve a spot because they had to turn a few people away on the last tour today.

I will do another tour next time I'm in the northwest, but have to start heading back east on Friday afternoon....after I go back tomorrow morning and purchase a few items.

I think the thing that most surprised me was that each and every knife that comes out of the factory is hand sharpened and paper tested!! All this time I thought a machine did it.

The laser cutting, the heat treating and deep freezing of the steel, the way they polish out the rivets on the handles, the way they polish the handles themselves, and the way each blade is hand polished....it's just an amazing process.

I enjoyed watching the guy that repairs knives sent in for any reason. He was one of the employees that's been with Buck for about 35 years and the only guy that does the repairs.

It sounds like they brought a high number of employees with them with over 30 years with the company.

Seeing the whole process makes me proud to be a life member of the BCCI (#2245)

J. Hubbard....I did have the tour guide call for you after the tour, but you were out of your office. Maybe we can meet tomorrow morning when the store opens at 9:30am.

110 Dave....I absolutely will purchase the DVD in the morning. Thanks for the suggestion. Gotta get me a coffee mug too and a few knives. I just have to decide which ones. I have some good ones in mind. I really enjoyed the area where they make the 110's. I think it would be great if it worked out to follow along watching the 110's being made in 2012.

Oh yeah...I also enjoyed the museum with a sampling of the knives made throughout the years.

I did take pictures, but I will have to wait to post those a little later.

Stumps, Glad you had a fun time at the Buck factory. I highly recommend it. It was a very memorable trip for me. DM

dang..
wish i had been there :(
dayum it sure seemed it took longer den 7 min fer us to get thorugh!!!
course we stoped at dat lite thingy what cuts steel
seen all the big heavy road plate looking steel sheets with blade holes in them
and got real good looksee at each stop we did...
but yas-sir it sure seemed to take a lot longer den 7 min
guess ifn we was to want to watch our ONE TEN being made
we would have to do a slow run to keep up!!!:D;)

Stumps, It sure was nice meeting you today and getting to spend some time with you.

Cindy and I had a great time!! Thanks a bunch for the personal tour. It was worth the trip from Colorado to get to know the Buck Company better and to meet up with you. I really enjoyed learning about the engineering process and how decisions are made that goes into the final product.

The whole morning at Buck was a highlight of this trip I'm on.

After you left, I ended up buying over a dozen knives. The girl at the counter said I made some good choices...however, I have to get in touch with her on Monday because when we switched out a limited edition camel bone 500 in the display case for another, I ended up with the wrong c.o.a. That Duke is beautiful!!

I enjoyed your inside out 110 too. That is definitely a one of a kind!! :-)

We stopped in Wallace, ID after we left Post Falls and did a little touring. Walked a four mile Trail to see the tunnel where Pulaski and about four dozen men survived when the 1910 fire overtook them.

Ended up camping in Sula, MT (no internet) and am camping in Broadus, MT tonight (internet finally!)

Thanks again Jeff for making it such a memorable trip. Your personal touch providing the tour and the additional insight into the Buck Company really topped off my trip to Post Falls.

Most of my pictures of the history of Buck knives didn't turn out well, but I thought this one of some pre 1961 knives did;

Jeff....I didn't realize I didn't get any pictures of you and me until after I left.

Thanks again to ALL the Buck employees for making this a memorable trip!!

I was just as impressed when i visited the old site in. California..............Now i have to visit Post Falls.........Great pics................carl

Sweet! Glad you liked the tour. I guess it's time I did a tour over there, myself.

Without wishing to hijack, may I also offer some shots I took on one of my trips over the the factory?

This is a small spread, with a sampling of the [many] pics I took that day. I also posted three of the larger pics.

Somewhere, I have a more complete set of shots of the museum. Very amateur quality, but they convey the sense of things.

Your pictures came out much better than mine. The ones I took through the glass in the museum didn't come out very good.
Thanks!!

I'm looking forward to going back in 2012.

I have to say one more good thing about Buck.

It was very busy in the retail store when I was picking out my knives last month. I got a camel bone 500 LE and thought the one in the display looked better, so I traded that out.

I didn't think about it and the sales girl didn't think about it, but I had the COA and LE box for #165 and I had #130 knife. I was half way across the United States when I realized it, so I called.

The sales girl was very apologetic and asked me to send back the COA and the LE box and she would mail me the correct ones.

I didn't think any more about it. I got a call a few days later from the girl I dealt with. She said the correct stuff had been mailed to me and a check for my postage on the return mail.

I told her she didn't need to send that check, but she said it was too late....the check's in the mail.

All I can say is this is just one of the reasons I'm such a Buck fan. Thanks Buck Knives and all the employees!!
