Buck Fluid question

Well I got the Buck fluid knife for my birthday! Really excited about it but the knife has thrown me a few surprises that I was not aware of.

I want to know if anybody who has this one is experiencing a lot of side to side play due to the engineering or design of the knife. It looks like it doesn't have a normal pivot screw instead it has an internal pin.

So because of this what I want to know is if it's normal to have side to side play in this model which I'm guessing it is because of how it's designed. I can literally see the whole back lock move when I put pressure on the knife again though which I believe to be normal. Also I'm hearing a rattling when I move the knife around or shake it which I also believed to be the internal pivot pin?

That should not happen. Who would design a knife like that? I would send it back to Buck for warrantee work.

Seriously by the way it looks it may be normal for this model. The only screw that actually goes through the entire handle holds the lock in place. There is no pivot screw. Just a pin held in place by the handles internally.

You've taken the scales off to look? I guess I assumed the pivot screw is under the scales. I have one of these and mine is snug and with no issues as you're describing. I'd be surprised actually if Buck just used a pin held in place by the pressure of the scales for the pivot. But I dunno. There'd be no way you could ever tighten up a loose blade as yours seems to be.

You were right. All pinned construction underneath the scales. And if yours is much tighter than mine is I'm glad they're sending me a replacement now.

Everyone on here knows I love Buck. But I don't care for non typical construction to complicate a simple knife. The cartridge construction on the Vantage series makes it difficult to square up the blade with the handle. Or fix 100 percent lock up issue. I am proud to say I have only brought one Buck folder back to the warranty dept. Pretty good track record for me.

Many lock back knives from Buck, and lots of others, use just pinned construction, but they shouldn't have as much wobble as yours seems to. Glad Buck is replacing it for you.

Perhaps the adjustable pivot screw is found more often on the "tactical" type knives? The Buck 110's, 500 series lock backs, et., are all pinned. I'd think the pin should fit snug enough though to stay in place if you take the scale off. I suppose the pinned construction made it easier for Buck to keep the slim build of the knife. But I'm just guessing.

Since it's a fairly budget friendly priced model, maybe it'd be an interesting project for a modder to fit a pivot screw into it, replacing the pin, so you could adjust tension without needing to remove the scales.
