Just wondering what steps you guys use to ensure the longevity of your edc buck folders...if any...Thanks

My 110 knifes seemz to stay at about just under four inches in longevity......lessn I sharpuzem too much.

Well, the first thing I don't do is try and cut a bolt like it shows on the scale shield. Well, maybe just once for show....:p....300

After that I like to use really high quality oil, Tuf-Glide is good, everyone has their favorites...

For slip joints and folders, I prefer something that lubricates and protects the joint, like glucosamine. :)

I am new to the knife knut world, but I have been using a gun lube called "Slip 2000" on my knives (and revolvers). It's supposed to be high quality stuff and it does not have any nasty fumes at all. For a knife that is all metal and aluminum (like the Sirus) I will take a can of Break Free aerosol and juice it down good, blast away all the excess with compressed air, and then give her a final wipe down with a rag (maybe even some q tips). Probably overkill there...:D

Chickentrax: I am in love with your dog!!! What breed is that cutie?

To extend my knife, I use a solution of oil based crushed Viagra and rub the blade gently using a soft cloth.

Sirusly, I keep 'em clean and lubed. And, try not to ("try" being the key word) to do goofy things with 'em.

My Weimaraner "Bonnie Blue" is the one who gets the glucosamine now... :)

I use LSA on my SS pistols and AR-15's, and pretty much good old 10w-30 on my knives...Sometimes 3in1 oil...I use WD-40 to clean them, then blow out with compressed air, then the oil...

I just rotate a dozen or so into the edc rotation.

you guys crack me up.......

oh yeah... I hijacked the wifes sewing machine oil, since she never uses it.

Is about as high a grade lightweight oil as I have found, and I didn't have to look very far. she will know where it is should she ever need it. :D

Chicken guy, I caught my gunsmith friend wiping some red colored oil on a barrel once. After some goading about his secret sauce, he finally admitted it was automatic transmission oil. Says it penetrates the metal and gives better protection. Some gunsmith secret.

but no...haven't tried it on any of my knives yet, but I did find some very slight rust on my Kaala yesterday, on the handle part,,,hummmm

Supposedly Buck honing oil was automatic transmission fluid. I had a can of it that was probably 30 years old and I used it for honing and lubricating knives.

Well Rescue.....
I have a 30+ year old burgandy micarta 501 that has been in my pocket every day with very rare exception and now mostly edc a CS110. The fourth version 110 I received in early grade school has a gracious retirement in the display case at the moment.
Yeah, they can and DO last a lifetime!
Any ?s  :D

Dave

Should you ever get into opening a 110 with one hand, a little cleaning and lite oil on the blade pivot sure helps. :D

I open my 110's with one hand all the time....never had a problem.

I don't oil my Spyderco's either.
