...I've got a hankerin' for one. Are the "charcoal birch grips" on the basic model impregnated or stabilised, or sealed in some way? How do any of you folks who have bought them, like them?

Thanks.
Jeff

Gave one as Senior gift in May. Grips impregnated. Receiver anxious to use on vension this fall.

I got one for my B-day and hope to use it this fall too... It's a great little knife.... ... ... ...

GEN 5... click on the pic 2 times to make it bigger...

:)

That looks like a great knife. Any chance for a comparison shot, say next to a 110...? Thanks.

Its one of the best new designs buck has come out with if you ask me,I love mine! The grips are laminated charcoal dyed birch, very durable, and the knife fits a big hand as well as a small hand, great edge holding even tho mine is 420 i would say its super 420 hc.lol

I used mine all last hunting season and the only complaint is everyonew else wanted to use it too.lol

Hey, it looks like a couple of Jeffs are going to be buying some new Bucks soon!

Thanks for the input.

Jeff, I don't have it with me right now or I would... I'm in Carlsbad, CA at my sons home... Maybe some one else can take a few pics... ITE

I don't have one with the charcoal handles, but here's a comparison photo of my Gen 5 and 110. The Gen 5 surprised me at how small it was when I first got it.

I saw one the other day at Sportsmans Warehouse.
Nice lookin knife. It was smaller than I thought they would be..
I think if they would have made it without the guard, it would have been an incredible looking knife. Looks like it would have flowed (?) very well.
YMMV

Whoa, that is a little fella.

Can you get your pinky on there with a comfortable grip?
Thanks for the photo.

The guard does look a little "strong" for the rest of the knife. Still want one though!!!

Thanks for posting the photo, Dave. That 'seals the deal' for me. Going to order one next week.

Here are the 005RWS and 005GYS Gen5's I got 18 months ago. I love the RWS's rosewood/brass/CPM154 contruction - hate the checkering on that handle - not real fond of the molded leather drop sheath. The 420HC on the GYS is fine - and the horizontal belt sheath is super - and, with it's velcro, can be put on a vertical pack strap, too.

I've carried the 005GYS most - both as hiking companions as I don't hunt now since the accepted method now is bushwhacking. The GYS even went to the coast. I've carved a walking stick and whittled with it - and it still raises hairs. I guess the upgrade CPM154 isn't really needed!

I really like the Gen 5 series and it's on my "must have" list. I seen one with a stag handle that looked very nice. I also like the checkered model like above.

Have to forward this thread to Josh the designer...he is down in Moscow Idaho at U of I pursuing a degree in Economics...good to know he has a fallback career.

I love the design but needs to be a good 2-3 inches bigger if I were going to hunt with it. Would be a good knife to go camping/hiking with.

Stainz, I respect your opinion but I love that checkered handle and sheath. Reminds me of my 1st huntin knife(long since lost:() and would match the checkering on my .300 Savage. If you get to dislikin it too much, send it to me and I'll give it a loving home:D
