I was wondering whether Buck used two different 154 steels on the Gen5 Skinner (I know they also use 420HC on this model). On the Buck website I noticed that they offer it in CPM154. However, on online retailers, some seem to have it in 154cm. Is this a mistake where they should all be advertising them in CPM154 as stated on Buck's website? Or did Buck make two batches...some with CPM154 and some with 154CM. Thanks.

Thats weird to me. Either Buck switched steel or it is a typo on Bucks website.
The previous models were 154CM. I had the snakewood version and my Dad just bought the rosewood version, they are both 154CM. I have never seen one (yet) in CPM154.
Maybe Joe will chime in here on this subject.

I have the snakewood LE and its 154cm. I checked a few special projects thinking maybe the highest end one's like the Guitar Series might be CPM154 but its also 154cm.

As far as I know the only CPM154 used was for the BP110 and Bass Pro Vanguard.

All i have is the plain charcoal/420 hc model, but i'll tell ya right now i'd swear its as good as bg-42,I mean i have used mine on a few deer and bear and small game as well as camp chores and fish, all i've done with it is touch it up on a diamond steel its still wicked sharp.....maybe due to the perfect edge geometry on the blade.

Ok...found out from a dealer that they are actually making them in CPM154 now. The dealer was advertising them in 154cm, but told me that he checked the blade and it said CPM154. I like how Buck is using the latest premium steels. I've never bought a Buck in over 10 years now. This has already changed as I have a CPM154 Gen5 Skinner on order. Thanks guys for the responses.

I love how they have multiple steel options to choose from for alot of models! Options are good! I have used CPM154 and 154CM, I couldnt really notice a difference, they are both great!!!!!!!! Enjoy you new Buck! Please post your thoughts once you get it!
