Buck General 120 question about not being marked with pro line

I am looking to buy a buck general 120 and I was wondering what is the difference between the ones that are marked with the pro line and the ones that are not? Are the ones not marked with the pro line vintage?

I want to buy one that was made about 2 years ago and is not marked with the pro line writing on the blade. Are there any modern 120s not marked with the pro line? What is the difference between the pro line and the ones that are not marked with the proline? Which one is harder to find and costs more?

Anybody familiar with the Model 120BKS-B?

Pro Line etched knives are sold by Cabelas. They have lifetime free sharpening.
Both types of knives you describe can be found for various prices all in the same range.
The 120 General is discontinued (no longer in Bucks catalogs) but they are popular enough that several other retailers have Buck make them as special factory orders or SP Special productions. One like you want shouldn't be too hard to locate. Good luck!

So are the special production ones equal in quality to the one use to be made by buck? And which companies are these? Thanks for the response.

The special production ones are made by Buck. They are short runs for specific dealers. Buck just does not stock them as a regular item. Cabella's is the only dealer I have seen recently that has the General, though other dealers may also have some.

One way to insure there is no writing on the blade is to get the 120BR variant - with rosewood handle and brass pommel & fg. They are around - but command a few more sheckles. I am quite fortunate - and have a display with the 102, 103, 105, 119, & 120. all BR-style. Too pretty to use!

I have heard that the 'Pro-Line' logo comes off fairly easily - polishing with Flitz should help. I may try with my 192, one of my favorite users so adorned - for now. I'll report back, should I try.

You don't have e-mail enabled in your profile, so I am letting ya know here:
Both, the standard General without Pro-Line marking (or free sharpeneing) and the 120BR, are on sale now at a place where you "buy knives online" ;)

The 120 is a great little sword.
