I just came home from the big blue box store with a Buck gift tin set of the Nobleman and Deuce in zebra wood.
Are these left over from last Xmas, or do they put these out randomly throughout the year?

Those are leftovers from 2011. Most of the tins come out around Christmas, but there are others occasionally. The wood in your set is burl and ebony, the Nobleman is only finished like that on the side opposite the clip.

A few years ago I found the burlwood two tone set, but that one was a framelock with the wood only on one side. This one is a linerlock with two wood scales.

Must be a different set then. What is the date stamp on the knives?

Good question. Let's see...2012.
Probably left from last Christmas, then. Last few years, I've been making a point to look for these sets (I've got a bit of a collection of lancer/deuces) My local store has a sad display of pictures of knives, the actual knives are kept behind a counter where you really can't see them. I guess it cuts down on theft, but also sales.

I'm betting that they're the same frame. Without a scale added to the lock side, it's a framelock, the same knife with a scale added to that side becomes a linerlock. Right?;) Same lock either way.

It definitely seems to be a different frame.

Wow, there is a major difference in those two. Both the frame and blade shapes are so different, I'm surprised that they gave them the same name and number.

That bottom one look like shadua or maybe flaming koa.

Top one wood looking like salvage from renewvation of 1955 house paneling.

bottom knife better lookin knife all athe way round. to bad they forgot to put nice wood on to both sides.

I don't think they "forgot" the wood on the off side. I think they left it off to keep the cost of the set down in the entry level (cheap) collectable catagory.

Ha!:)
Whatever it is, I didn't think it went well with the CNC machined grooves and notches, so I whittled on it a bit
