I know someone who has a 446 Goliath and marksman for sale…

any opinions on these two knives?

also

What would you do in this scenario…

$150 to spend…

Options…
new base black model 830 Marksman and a new 446 Goliath

or

New white bone handle 119 …alumn…buck standard 420 steel

thanks in advance for suggestions

I know little about the Goliath, although I have admired a few on the 'bay.

The 830 Marksman is one of my favorite knives and has been my daily carry for a few years. A unique design for Buck, especially the lock. I also have the 831 Tanto version which is not quite as appealing to my eye. I recommend both.

Marksman...Hawk knives are classic designs no matter who makes them :)

I'm going to say the 119, 'cause they were produced in lesser numbers and are difficult to find now. The Goliath and the Marksman produced in great numbers and are easier to find.

probably leaning towards the marksman/goliath combo

person I am buying from…

one marksman has the hawk collaboration on blade
the other marksman does not..

does that make a difference?

I lean towards what Preston pjsjr pjsjr said. The Goliath is not an expensive knife so take that out of the equation and decide between the other two.

I handled the Goliath back in the day and felt the handle was too plastiky. Nice blade tho.
I'd go with some combo of the other 2 options based on your budget.

Marksman 1000 percent, it's a tank of a knife that carries smaller, and is an exceptional cutter. The lock is beyond strong and the bearings make it fly out. I would never part with the one I have.

I bought the Marksman and Goliath combo…thanks to all for input….
well the Goliath, is Goliath! a Buck oddity and conversation piece..almost 30 years old
Marksman is a nice knife, but I will need practice in releasing the 61A44CBD-90C2-436F-B25D-E59BABFE6314.jpeg blade. as far as quality, the Marksman is like a Rolex to the Timex quality of the Goliath. No comparison.

Yep , you right….The Goliath is too light..and unsubstantial…not a total POS, but nothing special
