Iv been debating over what knife to get for my kit for use as a small detail knife. That is untill i saw this beauty at the local outdoor emporium. Anyone handled one of these yet? how does it perform?

I've been using one since early December, when a friend gave me one.

I love it!!!

I can only repeat what I have reported on it in another post, that at first I thought it was a joke. I thought "what the hell am I going to do with this itty bitty toothpick?"

The joke was on me. For the last three months I've made a consentrated effort to use it as my first choice of knife, before pulling out my sak or one of my traditional pocket knives like a cadet or stockman. It's opened my eyes to the very small fixed blade as being a usefull edc.

With very few exeptions, it has done everything I asked of it. Its a mity mite of knifedom. Its cut and broke down cardboard boxes, opened my mail, opened UPS boxes, plastic blister packs, sharpened pencils, cut jute twine, done food duty when a resuruant did not give me a knife capable of cutting a steak.

I've touched up the blade twice now on a fine (red) Eze-lap diamond pocket hone, and I strop it on a leather now and then.

Its so light and compact it can become forgotten. I carry it mostly on a bead chain under my shirt even with the last button above the belt. It's easy to get to and deploy, no blade to open or close. If I'm wearing a tee shirt, the sheath goes into my right front jeans pocket with a lanyard from the sheath to the end knot in the lanyard stuck under my belt.

This is going to be a very easy knife to underestimate because of it's tiny size, but most of the time in the real world, it's going to cut what you need to cut. Think of it as a super handy un-folding pen knife.

I LOVE IT!

i have one on the way. can't wait to get it. 99% of the stuff i hear about it is wonderful. the only complaint i hear about is the sheath looseness but that is easily fixed with a round of tape

great info jackknife. that made me pumped up about it.

with it being in S30V steel and Bos tempered, it should be awesome, especially for the price

If you're curious about it, just go for it. You'll likely find it as useful as I and other members have.

It's very handy. It's lightweight and thin profile make it hard to notice in the pocket. It can be gripped with just the thumb and index finger, freeing up the rest of your hand to grab stuff if need be.

Really, the only complaint I have is the same one I have with all of Buck's knives. It ships with too obtuse of an edge, especially considering this particular knifes size and application.

Here's a link to a more in-depth review with some photos to help you judge its size. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=456643

I'm tempted. But I dunno.
For less than 18 clams more ya can get ya a 271 154CM BOS with a leather sheath that doesn't need to be taped.
The Hartshook just seems too small IMO.
Now, with that being said, for detail work as stated by the thread originator, Mr. Trooper, it may just be the ticket.
Your mileage may vary...

I find them way too small. Wicked sharp, and great steel, but so thin that Ihad to wrap it with paracord to make it feel usable. I like a thicker steel like 3/2nds. I find that thickness ideal in a small knife.

they are very small.I had gotten one and passed it on to a friend in Scotland.
