For a bit over a month now I've been using a little Buck Hartsook neck knife. It was given to me by a friend who I did some favors for. So far it has changed my mind about that kind of knife.

I've never been a fan of the neck knife thing, and never understood the skeleton thing either. I thought this kind of knife and this particular knife was a joke. Meant to appeal to mall ninjas and Walter Mitty secret agaent types.

I was wrong.

For the last month I've had it, I have worn it suspended from a button hole in my shirt. Its proven to be a very good little knife, extremely handy, and easily fills the bill of an edc un-folding pen knife. Durring the holidays it broke down boxes, cut tape and string, and a ton of everyday cutting chores. I've come to love it.

My only gripe is I wish it was just a TAD bigger. Not much, just a tad.

In the future I'm going to reserve judgement till I actually use something.

JK,
Nice post. I'm still where you were before you tried the Hartsook. I've heard of neck knives for a while but they never appealed to me. Guess I better get one and try it out for a while.

You'll see what I mean by a tad larger. Maybe a bit wider spear point?

I know this is a very old thread, but I have to bump it to the top. I've had mine for about a month. This little knife is absolutely fantastic. I wrapped the handle to give it more purchase and it is a little cutting machine. It rides along while I'm on duty and cuts everything a L.E.O. needs to on a given night. By no means is it a self defense tool, just a simple cutting instrument (more like a scalpel) that is there when needed. A nice design, good steel, good heat treatment and immediately available when called upon. thumbs up to Buck and D.Hartsook. Again, sorry for the bump. I had to speak up.

I am a LEO and carry the 889 or 882 when I'm working. I have the hartsook laced into the front tongue on my duty boot and use it as a back up knife. Most of the time I don't even realize it's there. When I'm off duty I wear another hartsook on a beaded chain behind my leather badge clip holder.

I am an AIRES.
Also carry a 882 with a 889 blade in my pocket if not a 110 on the belt
Don't have a Hartshook, but I have a Kaala, which I still can't wear according to LEOs.
So I carry a Kalinga fixed off the belt as a back up.

;)

Gents, have you had any problems with the Hartshook sheath as was initially reported often upon initial release of the system?

Mine would shake out of the sheath. I fixed that with a wrap of duct tape. Great little blade!

I got a kydex sheath made by Death's Head for mine. It's smaller than the one included with the knife and I love it.

I'm not sure if I have posted this here, but the Hartsook sheath was updated because of this problem. If you call or write the Buck Cutomer service department they will send you one of the new style sheaths.

I was lucky enough to go to the SHOT show in Orlando this year and held one in my hand for the first time at the Buck booth...My first thought was that it was to small also...But when I got past that I relised just how usefull that kind of blade could be.Its real easy to have that ON YOUR PERSON 100% of the time...When my 110/112 would be in the car or worse yet at home. Like a 44 mag is a better gun than a little pocket 32, only if you have it with you........I told CJ that it needed a little texture/stippling around the hole for added GRIPPABILTY...He thanked me and said he would pass that along I was so tickled at that! Every person that I have met in the Buck family has been so gracious and nice! In the Buck club too..........

I'm very glad to hear that. Thanks for the information!

I still need to get one of these things. The new sheath design looks much more secure.

Goose: How did you get a pic of my sister for your avatar???

The new design is nice. The only problem for me is that I wrap the handle. I guess I'll stick with the old sheath design, which is no problem with a little electrical tape or a rubber band. These two keep the knife VERY secure. I actually have to use a little "oomph" to pull the knife out.

The OJ Jury is still out on this one for me (Hartshook).

Messy, your sister was bummed that you didn't take her to the prom, so I swung by. She is really cool...butter.

She said you were a real gentleman Goose.... ;)

I think she could hide a Hartsook in her unibrow, or between her teeth.
