Looking at the Buck traditionals. The Solitaire seems to be the perfect size. Is there a multi-bladed model that's the same size, or has the same main blade size? I'm hoping for a knife with the Solitaire main blade, and a smaller, wharncliffe/coping style blade on the other end. Is there a model like this?

Also, what is Valox? Plastic? From pictures, the diamondwood looks a lot better, what is that? Thanks for any help. As always, pics are a big help.

The only multi blade that is the same size is the 301, which is a Stockman pattern, Clip main blade and Spey on one end...and a Sheepsfoot on opposing end.
It has the same size frame and main blade, but will be thicker. So yes, the configuration you are looking at is best represented by the 301.
They also have a couple of two blade models...
the 305 Lancer has the clip main and a Coping secondary opposed, but its overall length is 2 5/8",where the Solitair is a 3 7/8" knife...quite a difference in size there...
the 309 Companion has a main clip, and the secondary blad is a Pen...Length 3"
Your choice will undoubtebly be influenced by how critical you are on the size factor.

these knives are available in the black Valox, yellow Delrin, and Charcoal Dymondwood.
Valox is plastic, and is pretty much indestructable, Dymondwood is birch impregnated with a resin and bonded in layers under pressure so that once bonded acts as a continuous matrix of wood/plastic...it's very tough stuff.
These can also be had in the Chaiman Series, which sport Cherry Dymondwood scales.
I included Bucks web adresse above, and these knives will be found in their EVERYDAY section...click on knives first and the drop down will have the different sections...hope this helps...

Sitflyer pretty much covered it. I like the charcoal dymondwood myself. The valox in my 309 is pretty durable.

The Buck 302 Solitaire blade is the main blade from a Buck 301 stockman.
I have one of the prototypes and the blade is stamped "301".

So, if you like the main blade the same size as the Solitaire, you would want a 301. There is no 2-bladed Buck knife with that size blade.

Valox is a thermoplastic. IIRC it was developed by GE. Again, IIRC, GE sold off its plastic division to a Saudi consortium. Howsoever, the resin remains tough stuff. It's a polyester based resin which is highly resistant to heat or chemicals.

As sitflyer said, the diamondwood is resin impregnated wood. It also is very tough.
