I'm consider buying a Centofante III or a Buck Mayo Hilo. They're about the same size and close in price. I'd appreciate your comments/comparisons of the two. Which one would you get? I like the Centofante but am a little concerned about the thin blade.

Thanks,

I don't think that you can go wrong with either one.

The Hilo is a frame lock and it is built rock solid. It feels great in the hand and very comfortable. One of the best values in knives.

The Centofante is solid with a lockback. The handle is grippier, but I do not think as comfortable. I feel that it has the better steel. I don't think that the blade is too thin. It is a good slicer.

Both are good choices-it depends on which one you like better.

I think both are good buys.I was surprised at the quality of the Buck Mayo made in China folders. The only problem with carrying the Hilo is the double sided thumb studs go out a little too far.Sometimes it gets caught on the material when comming out of the pocket.I would go with the Centofante 111.The steel is probably better. You know Spydercos rep with heat treating and warranty.I am not sure what the Hilo is made of,some say 440A,some 440C.Its made in China so I don't know if P Bos heat treats it.If he does than you can be sure its done right. If its heat treated in China then who knows.

Pretty sure Bos does all of Buck's heat treats, but yeah, not so sure about the steel issue. I've seen conflicting reports as well.

The Centofante III was my first spydie, it's a good one. Pretty, too.

Go for the Centofante. The blade does "seem" thin and the knife is slim.

It's a great knife and slices and cuts great.

I would go for the Centofante III. You get better steel and it carries very well, since it's pretty slim.
