What am I missing on this knife? I use my large outdoor knives for Batoning to split sections of wood into smaller pieces using only a knife and another stick. When I see the large Buck Hood/Hoodlum Knife I see that large cut in the top of the blade (groove cut into spine for scoring bone). It looks like a weakness area to me? I generally use a 7 or 9" blade and this is 10"

Anyone use this blade for Batoning wood?

I've used mine many times. No problems yet. When I bought mine, I had no intentions of it being a safe queen.

The only weakness I see is that notch MIGHT catch on a hog rib, but I doubt it.

I have one and like it a lot! I have 2 actually now. Lot of blade for not a lot of weight. Ron knew what he was doing when he made designed this knife!

The notch is for scoring a bone if needed (to get to the marrow) or to pick a pan up off a fire. I haven't had a need for my notch yet but am not concerned about it being there.

I can whittle with it as good as I can with my ESEE 3 MIL. I have tried to use the notch for stuff, but I just cant see much use. I am indifferent towards it. Love the knife though.

I haven't used mine yet, but not afraid to.

For there is always the Buck Warranty.

I love mine! Its the perfect little big knife! ;)
I never batoned with it, but have limbed trees and brush. Even used it to gut a deer and split the rib cage. Worked awesome!
