Have we had a thread about this guy yet? (If there has been, please feel free to close this mods) I think it looks pretty good. What do you guys think? I'd like to see it compared to a Junglas.

5160 Carbon Steel
10in FFG blade
.220in thick
around $170 street price.

Theres a good video interview at the 2011 SHOT show with the designer, Ron Hood on youtube. Unfortunately Nutnfancy is the interviewer.. but hey whataya gunna do?

What is the notch in the blade for?

It better be good because it looks like it would be a weak spot.

Because it has to be different. Just like the "bone scoring" notch(es) or whatever on the TOPS Anaconda. Superfluous addition for marketing that adds nothing except cost of manufacturing.

ditto. if there's enough wood to burn to get a pot handle too hot for bare hands, there's enough wood there to carve for a pot lifter :o

the other one made by tops(same design) sold out quickly and their is another similar version tops made as well called the anaconda and it had 3 notches
I would not mind having one ,just cant swing $200+ for it

I think I'll just get a Junglas and use my Dremel to put a pot lifter on there. Kind of like my firesteel striker I did on my 3MIL.

I'm sure it will sell a ton BUT, it's too lite. My Junglas will for sure out cut it simply due to the weight factor. The Hoodlum is way too lite for a large cutter. When it comes to big knives you have to have oz.s to swing. There's good and bad weight and the Junglas is ALL GOOD WEIGHT!

Pot lifter. Works like a charm.

You sure, SG?
I thought it was a wire breaker notch carried over from the Anaconda 9.

5160 Carbon Steel seems like pretty good stuff. But, the <$200 pricetag keeps warding me off. I had hoped when Buck took over production the price would come down somewhere near the Junglas...guess I was wrong. :grumpy:

it's Both per Ron's videos I seen :)

Yes, bone scorer, pot lift, wire bender/breaker and anything else you could use a notch in a blade for.

Hood has been teaching, practicing, and examining survival and survival tech since before I was even a gleam in my dad's inebriated eye; If he says it'll work that's good enough for me.

I just wish the derned thing were less pricey....

I have the Tops version and plan on getting this one also. I like. Also have a older Anaconda

oh come on guys it is all about the harmonics! no but seriously i like it. i would use it if i had it. not sold on the sheath though.
