I'm in the market for a new hunting knife, I've been looking at a Buck now, I've moved away from Condor for a hunting knife. I'm mainly looking for a fixed blade. Help?

If it has to be a Buck then I would look at the new 124. They were rare and expensive until the new production models and the one I have is a lot of knife for the money. The Kabar/Becker is always a great choice and around 75.00.
Good luck

Buck hunting knife without a little information is hard to help you narrow down what you are looking for.

What are you going to hunt? Folding or fixed blade? How long of a blade, and any price range?

Buck Pathfinder. One was given to me on my 20th birthday about 20 some years ago. Still carry it every deer season. Just about perfect size to gut and skin a deer.

For hunting, I believe the 103 sports an excellent blade profile, for field dressing, and skinning. It's not too much knife by any means, but is enough to get the job done. Just a classy looking, traditional styled Buck fixed blade that'd fit in just about anybody's hunting gear or knife collection.

Well lets see I have been hunting since 1979.I own quite a few Buck knives.Since the reintroduced the 124 that is a knife that will last him a lifetime. It is a little big for a novice hunter. The Buck Vanguard is about the perfect size for all his hunting needs.I can not even tell you how many deer and other game I have gutted and cut up with mine. When my son started hunting I bought him a Buck 105 Pathfinder. It is a great all around hunting knife.Hope this helps.

How about a buck 113?

The 113 is a great knife without a big price tag. The 105 is a nice utilitarian....entirely different blade shape than the 113. Or, take a look at the Vanguard with the reg 420HC or Guide Series with S30V.

If it has to be a Buck, I'd go for a Vanguard. The Alaskan Guide version comes in S30V, a much better steel than the usual 420hc Buck uses.

I wholly second this one. The vanguard is almost the perfect hunting knife in S30V. Great blade shape, length, design, and the S30V that Buck puts out is hard to beat. You can pick up a rubber handled one for a decent price, and that handle is very grippy in slimy conditions. If you want more traditional, I'd go with the 105 pathfinder. That was my first fixed blade 30 years ago and I still have and use it.

Edit. I just read your last post. Maybe a 420hc vanguard then. Still a good knife with decent steel. If even that's over your price range, you can go with the bucklite max version. Same blade as the vanguard in 420hc but at a fraction of the cost and very durable.

Any of these would work and are $60 or less.

Buck Alpha Hunter, Rubber Handle(694BK)
Buck Ranger Skinner Fixed Blade (113)
Buck Pathfinder, Black Phenolic Handle(105)
Buck Woodsman, Phenolic Handle(102)
Buck Special, Black Phenolic Handle(119)
Buck Vanguard, Rubberized Handle(692)

I have used the 102, 692 and the 119. I like the Woodsman 102, it’s almost the fixed blade version of the folding hunter 110.
The Buck Vanguard, Rubberized Handle(692) is great for field dressing and shinning.
