Hahaha, thank you
So..... a thought on melting a glass bottle closed with a knife inside.
I have been a glass worker for nearly 20 years.
I work with borosilicate glass (pyrex), but bottle glass is similar enough.
At a melting point of around 650°F, getting the end of the bottle hot enough to melt will cause the air inside the bottle to get very hot (likely much hotter than the glass) as well.
Hot enough to discolor brass, and likely hot enough to burn or at least scald wood.
Once I was asked if I could seal a shark tooth inside a small bottle, and sure enough, it burned the tooth to a crisp.
Also, bottle glass needs to be cooled slowly, so you would have to use a kiln (bad for knives) or at least bury it in vermiculite (which would end up distributing the heat throughout the bottle, and once again bad for the knife)
The safest idea.for a buck in a bottle would be to use a cork.
Now, on the idea of bottle selection, some of those jars with the lid on a hinge and a wire clasp, might be awesome.
I see them all the time when browsing the local thrift shops.
