I have seen a lot of posts refrenecing the BG-42 blade as being out of stock or being replaced by S30V. Is this from the rumor mill or is it true? The BG-42 appears to be available at the Buck custom shop.

FWIW, Joe Houser told me that they were running out of BG-42 steel and that he was pushing to get the company to order some more. I tried to get a BG-42 blade on a 110 from the Custom Shop but Joe said he did not have any.

Ciao 4now

I think we should have a sticky topic with the information on how to do the upgrades. Joe H. could update it with current prices and availability, then lock it so we wouldn't have to wade through discussion. It would help keep all the upgrade info in one spot.

Capital idea!!

Or, they could just keep their web site updated.

How many peeps that don't come here but check out the Buck site, call and take up the Cust Svc Rep's time for something that doesn't exist?

No wonder the lines are often busy.

I agree with this post! There is no need for a special thead on BF...
Not enough people to warrant that. BUT it would be great if the website were kept up to date! Up until recently they still had the 2005 BCCI collector knife also on the site... Maybe it takes time I guess...

ABSOLUTELY TRUE. I don't know who is in charge of the Buck website but keeping it up to date hasn't been one of their strong suits. My experience tells me there is much room for improvement.

Hello Buck: anyone listening??

I would imagine that the same person who answers the phone, also answers the door...updates the web site...responds to emails...brings in and sorts the mail...routes the mail...jots notes from mail, email, and phone...routes all those notes...makes coffee...runs various errands...

It's not General Motors...There's only so many bodies...and they're all related...

You can't be a dictator and expect harmony...

...That's the end of my Sunday sermon...don't ignore the basket on your way out... :)

Posting updates to a sticky topic here would be trivially easy.

Keeping a web site updated requires more time and effort.

It seems to me as long as "current prices" was not included technically nothing is for sale!

Hmmm ... I did not know that! Thanks!

Rhino - We had a big "violation" here last month, caused by some dummy [coff, coff] posting a link to an active eBay auction...then there were multiple violations of the Forum rules by just about everybody, including some really odd state auction law infractions, and Cougar had to come down and sort everything out... :(

Bottom line is - no selling, buying, trading, pimping, or linking to sales, dealers, sites, whatever - outside of the Buy & Sell Forum... :)

...Which pretty much all goes out the door as soon as Wally World has their Buck Knife Sale... ;)

Doesn't Joe have enough to do yet???
What do you think Joe?
I get the impression you have enough work for 3 people... :D

I'm almost 100% positive that Buck does not maintain the site in-house (actually 99.9% after some digging around).
It does cost money to make changes and the price depends on their contract.
But, indeed, it still requires that the end customer submit, test, approve changes/updates.
Some customers will bunde their changes in a "pack" to reduce cost as some contracts have minimum charge and it also reduces testing time/problems to release in one upgrade/revision pack.
Nonetheless, the store should reflect current inventory/pricing. That can be accomplished with a change in their current store front, and in fact, add additional revenue for Buck's Custom Knife Shop.

Gees Goose,
I thought your occupation was minimal compliance!
Your quote here though makes me think otherwise :D
Quite technical - Computer whiz? :D

Maybe Buck should put up a page for in house job openings. IE: Web Manager ?

LOL, did I say that here? I have used that in contract discussions by stating that the contract terms represent "minimal compliance" and that what we offer is even more. I believe that to be true in my work life. Life, in general? Ever since my heart gig, I'm just happy to be here.

Technical? No...used to be. I'm a programmer by trade...started in '79. But now, for this company I've been with for 16 yrs, I moved into my current role which is contract compliance, costing, software/hardware landscape and change approvals, service delivery, customer communication, budgets, blah blah blah...

Anyway, speaking of budgets...I'm tapped for the month on my knife buying :( At least I got a General coming...but no BG-42.
