A friend gave me this knife. It looks like a decent blade. I tried to sharpen it and let me tell you, it's a bitch....might take it to a pro..

Any opinions on this knife, this one's in great condition.....

thanks

I sharpened a friends recently. His is an older model with a black micarta handle. Turned out he had been using it to open cans, among other things. It took me a while to get the edge in shape, but considering how he had been using it, it had survived remarkably well.

I liked the knife. It's a little heavy for its size, but being strong is not necessarily a bad thing. It would make a great camp knife. The steel was a little harder than I expected. And neither of us liked the snap closure sheath. Take your time sharpening the knife, it will be worth it. Your friend was very generous. Enjoy it!

It is rather "pretty". It has laminated red micarta type "wood". I agree, the sheath is rather odd. I have the presentation case too.
There is one very small scuff in the wood. The blade is real bright, but dull.

Looks like it would be a decent skinner if I get it sharpened.

It's really not my cup of tea because of the size, so I might trade if someone wants to.

Thanks for reply

BTW, that knife is out of production. I think its really too big and thick to make an effective skinning knife. It certainly does have a lot of belly, however. But as I said, I think it would be a good general camp knife.

There are Buck collectors who might be very happy to have it. I'm guessing value is around $100 to $150. If it was a gift however, maybe you should hang on to it and enjoy it.

It was more of a payoff of an old debt than a gift. He only owed me $60 so I guess I came out on top.

I am only in the early stages of the "disease" so my collection is rather small...a REKAT Pocket Hobbit and a couple Case jackknives and a couple Shrade hunting knives.

After lurking around these forums for a while, I am getting quite a few "symptoms".

I have been involved with firearms and their forums for a long time, but it seems to me that "knife people" are much more friendly and more willing to offer advice.

Thanks again

RC

p.s. I'll have to ease my wife into this new hobby gently
