I have a set of Buck kitchen knives my parents gave to me for a wedding present in 1980. The handles look like they are some sort of fiber reinforced resin and they came in a wood display case. I've never seen these anywhere else and would like to know if anyone can tell me anything about them.

Steamer, over on the home page is the "Makers and Manufacturers Forum" and under that is the "Buck Knives Forum". Maybe they will answer your question. Are you wanting to sell the knives?

I tried the Makers/Mfgrs. and I tried Collectors Corner and I got no replies. I saw this forum had the most activity and so I tried it. I don't want to sell them. I just am curious because they are so unusual.

Steamer, give this forum some time. It is not LIVE. Lots of folks are away from their computers this weekend. I'm sure you will recieve some sort of answer in the next few days. But it might take a week. You've had these knives for 19 years, wait a while. BTW: a friend showed me an 8 inch chef's knife made by Buck just the other day. Very nice. Well balanced. Good shape. He wants to know something about it, so I'm going to be following replies to your question. Again, give this forum a little more time. It WILL produce something. Also, you could call, write or email Buck directly for more info. Buck's website is www.buckknives.com. Also try emailing Joe Houser, Director of the Buck knives collector's club: jhouser@buckknives.com. Good luck!

Hi Steamer, I gave my grandmother the same set about the same time you got yours. The handles are Micarta, not sure about the blade steel. The set was called the "Emporess Trio" if I recall correctly. My sister "inherited" them when she moved into my granny's house. I was over one day and one was missing. When I asked about it she said she broke off the tip and threw it away! Man was I pissed! I'm glad you reminded me of those knives. I think I'll go over and claim the other two.
