Buck knife in the news.

I was surfing the local TV stations websites this morning and ran across a story about the fatal stabbing of an 18 year old male that occured in a city about 100 miles south of me. The police think it was the end result of a road rage incident and have no one in custody. Here's the picture that they used below their headline. There's no mention of the type of knife used or even if they have recovered the weapon.

If the knife turns out not to be a Buck, I think they owe Buck an apology for using that picture to depict a murder weapon! :D

Looks like a 119 to me.

Probably just the result of a quick Google image search, but I am not familiar with this particularly sad news story (I try and avoid my local news like the plague)

I've seen the news here use the same thing.Journalists nowadays aren't very bright and likely know zero about knives like they do firearms.

On a happier note,I went to an annual parade this morning and noticed most guys had a Buck 110 on they're belt.Still the most often seen knife down here.

The 119 is iconic. Even people who don't know what it is seem to re recognize it as a classic look. Therefore, it makes for a good image to show when referencing knives.

I think the premise of owing Buck an apology is ludicrous. If it were a story on gun violence where a Smith & Wesson was used, but they used an image of a Beretta 92, do you honestly think Beretta would be owed an apology? What if they used an image of a 1911? Who deserves an apology then? Browning? Springfield? Colt? Kimber?

To most people, its just a picture of a knife. Nothing to get upset about.

You don't seem to recognize a joke when it slaps you in the face.

Given the age of the victim and the description given of the assailant from the last report, (late teens, early 20's male) I'd be very surprised if it turned out to be a Buck. Unless of course, it was a "Punk". It's more than likely some tacticool, mall ninja type of knife. ;)

That is the way the news is these days. A stabbing produces the quintessential picture of a knife. The Buck 119 fills the bill perfectly. It doesn't matter what type of knife was used. That is what they use. They have all kinds of iconic symbols for things.

In a way, I'm kind of glad the Buck 119 is equated as a knife everyone can recognize, whether they know the brand or not. I don't think it makes Buck look notorious, just successful.

I got the joke too Dave. Pretty good too.

That must be a stock picture used by the media - I downloaded that same image several months ago off a stabbing story posted by our local station, WITN-TV. Sure looks like a Buck 119 to me. OH

I think Plumber's post was toward informational yet he does have a sense of humor when talking or writing. So, the icon's appearance. With me I'm more dry and had I been posting this I would not have included the icon. Guys, would have had to know the writer. Thus, my post could have been the target of some ridicule for it.?? It's all in stride, nothing to get bent over. Buck has a known name and iconic designs. DM

Ok, I went back and changed the icon to a big toothy grin in hopes of making it more obvious that it was meant to be a joke.

The media's biased ignorance is old news in the firearm community, no surprise they would treat blades the same, this is an oldie but goodie.
