Visiting family this week in Maryland and my older brother drove down from New York. Knowing I collected Buck knives he related a story about his best friend from High School. They graduated HS in 1964 and his friend Doug was in the Seabees and heading for Vietnam in 1966. My brother gifted Doug a Buck knife, he recalls it being a General, "the long one". Doug was in a helicopter that was shot down and credits the Buck knife my brother gifted him with saving his life as he was able to use it to free himself from the downed helicopter and escape on the side opposite the enemy gunfire.

That's the story...

Cool story, thanks for sharing it with us. :)
If I were dropped off in the jungle, I'd be happy to have a Buck 120 on my hip as well.

Is that story written up anywhere? It would be interesting to see what kind of chopper it was and exactly how the 120 was used to get out of it.

If it hasn't been written up......it SHOULD be.
