I was referred to this site by another member to get knife questions answered. I have been trying to contact Buck Knives via their website but no response after several attempts...I'm wondering if anyone actually answers questions posted on it? Can anyone tell me why Buck Knives switched sheath styles from a flap-over to a wrap-around? Nobody I know who has one likes it. Why did Buck change and why don't they go back to their original flap-over style sheaths. I hate these new sheaths and won't buy anymore until they change back or come up with a way to buy the old style sheaths. Thanks!

Gravedigger...!!!

Don't hold your breath waiting for them to reintroduce the flap over. I seriously doubt that will happen. I like them too, but I have no problem with the new ones either. Even if I didn't like them, it wouldn't keep me from buying any new ones.

The Buck web site really isn't the kind of place that you will get answers to questions like you asked them. I have no idea why they changed and probably no one here knows for sure either. You may get all kinds of speculatory answers but it probably boiled down to cost.

The flap sheath went out about 20 years ago but if you really want one you can easily find them at gunshows or the auction sites for just about any model. I recently purchased the correct one in as new condition for an early 70's knife for $25. Just bide you time and watch for them, they turn up regularly.

Now just hang on Missouri Mule. The type of sheath you desire is easily available from many places and not hard to find at all. I really like the wrap around sheath. So, here's one person for your list. Still, if I had a fettish for one sheath over another I just make the one I like and put the knife I want in it. I wouldn't let the tail wag the dog. I seen them at Gun Shows, swap meets and such all the time. DM

Missouri Mule....so Dave are you just attributing the qualities of strength, endurance, and great cognitive intelligence? :D:D:D

Theres another long time collector (Scott Hartman)who likes the wrap around style sheath as well. Check it out, he stated so in the thread on a counterfit 119. Which makes two. DM
