Hello all --

I've recently seen Buck Knives available at Wal*Mart and I'm wondering if there are any differences between the Buck Knives for sale there versus other retailers? I asked the associate if I could examine a Buck 119 Special and a 110 Folding Hunter. The biggest "difference" I noticed was that they both came with Made In China nylon sheaths versus the regular leather sheaths. I understand that a nylon sheath costs less in materials and to produce than a leather sheath, but are there any other "cost cutting" differences, besides the sheaths, between Buck Knives sold at Wal*Mart and those sold at other stores?

Thank you for your time, GeoThorn

You'll get the official answer later when the west coast starts getting going, but as far as I know there is no difference in the models 110 and 119.The new 303 was assembled in Mexico and now they are made in China. I've bought 119's for each of my cars and have had no problems with them. I wish the 119 had a nylon sheath when I bought mine, I prefere that to leather. And I've not had a nylon sheath fail.

No difference in handle and blade material. If you want something special check out offerings from Cabela's. The Alaskan Guide series boasts S30V steel! We love the Alaskan Guides!

And welcome to BladeForums.

No Difference other than the sheath. Other than that it all uses the same parts.

Thank you, again. I suddenly became a Buck Knives "collector" when I walked into my hometown Wal*Mart and found seven Buck Knives in the reduced price section of their Sporting Goods display case. There were five Buck Alpha Folding Hunters and two Buck Diamondback 4.25s, and I ended-up buying several that had been marked-down 40-45%. Shopping at Wal*Mart is a great way to get quality merchandise at a lower price, but I always wonder if the quality is as good as I think I'm getting.
I've followed the thread regarding Buck Knives made outside of the U.S. and imported, and that spurred some of my question, but as far as the "Made In Taiwan" Diamondbacks go, if Buck Knives is doing the Quality Control and Assurance, as well as still upholding the Lifetime Warranty, then the quality of the knife itself isn't in question for me. I wish that Americans were holding those jobs, but I understand that Buck Knives has fiscal responsibilities to take care of, to stay in business.

Thank you again for your reassuring replies! GeoThorn
