Not sure if I'm posting in the correct place or if I'm doing it correctly. Still learning how to navigate on the forum. What time frame did Buck knives put out these displays and how are the knives displayed in the case? are the knives held in place with Velcro? I have several displays and want to start filling them with knives but not sure what is the proper way the factory did it. Thanks

I don't know what years they used that display, but it looks like the knives were displayed vertically.
Are the white dots magnetic?

It was not unusual for people to hold and inspect the display knives, or for the retailers to sell the display knife if it was the last one in stock.
I don't know of anyone that used Velcro to hold any display knives in place.
There might have been an elastic loop(s), if the dots are not magnetic.

The white dots are little Velcro circles that had the knife model glued to it. The white dots Velcro to the red felt. Thanks for the information.

This display has been customized by someone, likely the retailer. There are several types of this style of display. There are at least two different top signs, older ones are not a box within a box. Some are on swivel bases that turn to reveal two sides. I believe some early ones had peg board but later were felt covered. The Velcro was a retailer modification, store knives likely just sat on shelving.
There are two kinds of model ID buttons, stick on paper and hard plastic. Several folks have different types in their collections. Display cabinets are shown in the back of most old Buck catalogs. If someone is interested who is a BCCI member and is interested to help you, they can go to the BCCI history section and see when the styles changed. Someone with more knowledge chime in. I had some upright displays and gave them to David Martin as a trade for paying for the table at the knife show I drove down to in NM. I only have a couple of horizontal table top display cases I used to create my knife show display. Some folks use Buck display boxes at home and at knife shows, but once you get to the show level you usually have enough knives they won't fit in Buck counter displays. After that point the sky is the limit. It pays to know or be a woodworker.
You can use Buck forum search function to Blade Show diaplays, knife displays or just displays. Here is link to a 2012 thread that has good table top display and information. 300

Mhead, welcome to the Buck Forum. Your display is from early 1980's. Your's does not swivel, those came later. (as 300 said) I have that one. A note of truth; 300 did not have to give me those displays, he's just good like that. DM

Thanks David for the information. Do you know if there are any factory pictures available anywhere showing the correct knives that would have came in that particular display?

Pretty darn cool!! The good ole days.
Do you think any stores do a nice display anymore? I’m pretty sure no one does a Buck Exclusive display these days.
Most stores in my area only carry a few Bucks.

I’m not even sure of a store I could walk into and buy a Buck knife. Let alone a complete selection.

Most i have seen is a store will carry different manufacturers in a glass counter and Bucks will be a couple of the popular fixed and a couple folders like 110-112. Then a rack with several of the newer Bucks in blister packs.
No Buck dedicated display but still way better than Wally world.

Didn’t know if i could mention the popular outdoor stores so i’ll leave that to your imagination.

For me, usually in old Hardware stores or non-chain feed or lumber stores. I have almost quit looking. Some members have reported good finds in old stores that have been closed and then eventually have a clear out sale. Usually in small rural towns.
I once tried to buy one in a general store up in the Ozarks that they had out on a counter corner. Only overseas non-Buck knives in it. Was too quick to offer $50 and the drool out of the corner of my mouth made owner cautious. I walked away. I bet its still there some 12 years later. 300

I haven't found any counter top displays that I would pay the asking price for yet.

Some years ago I did find this stand alone display in a hardware store that was closing and made a deal for it and a few Buck knives at what I thought was a fair price.

My Buddies gun shop has about 30 different models displayed in a store glass type counter. They are priced competitively....

He has a small Buck counter display he wants me to buy. It takes up too much counter space plus he has more knives than will fit in the cabinet...

Thanks David for the help. I have the big floor model display as well. Now I can get started filling all of them up. I did find some pictures of the small counter top displays with the knives in them on this forum that has helped me fill mine. I'm very glad I joined this forum. Great knives and great people.

You guys are getting me all nostalgic. Growing up in the late 60s/early 70s, this simple counter display is the one that I remember the most. Filled with all of the fixed blades and a few folders. More knives than I could ever afford. Dang, I miss those days.

TAH TAH , I didn't know we had to spin you up to shift into retro gear. :)
M Mhead , mine is like yours, it has the shelves. Which I think came out a few years before 1985. I gifted Plumber one like TAH's above.
Which are 1970 era. Those little button model identifiers are scarce as hen's teeth. Should you find a display with those, wipe the drool and
make a deal quick. You owe me a good cup of coffee. You're welcome. DM

I have 2 of those like TAH with the buttons. Nice display TAH. Just haven't put the knives in mine yet. I've got to make sure I've got the right era knives to put in them. Those older display case's sure look great full of knives. Reminds me of the old country stores that have sense gone. David should we ever meet you will have your coffee. MH
