I was just looking at some old 110's and the paperwork that came with them, that was the best slogan i have ever heard, and many of the old timers still use it to describe old buck knives,it was a slogan that fit and stuck to the buck name,SO why did they change it to'the measure of a knife since 1902? that slogan makes no sense to me whatso ever,i wish they would just keep some things traditonal..::confused::(

Maybe they figured since they been making knives for 109 years, that's something you can hang you're hat on. Pretty amazing to me to keep it going in one Family for that long.

Heck, back in the day they didn't have to put a legal notice disclaimer in the paper that comes with the knives.I just noticed that at the bottom.Things change:eek:

The younger generation must feel they have to change things around to make it seem like they're doing something to justify their salaries.

Ho and hum.

A lot of their changes have been, at best, mistakes......and at worst, bad mistakes.

Don't want to stagnate and new ideas must be forthcoming espically in these economic times . Trying to expand their market . DM

Trying to expand the market is a good idea,If thats the new slogan"the american brand"it kind of sounds like its just for americans in a way it could be misunderstood and taken that way.

"Famous for holding a edge"yeah thats the one that sticks with me all these years.

I must admit I find the older slogan more catchy IMO it best describes bucks original philosophy.

Here's the real scoop.

With the newer, softer steels, the slogan "Famous for Holding an Edge" had to be changed to "Famous for Being Easy to Sharpen."

That slogan didn't sound as good as the old one, so they really had to get something totally new......and a bit vague.

;)

YEP,All kinds of talk about super steels of today,i don't think there is a super steel that i wouldn't put my old 2 dot edc up against in real world edge holding capabilities,as loing as i could sharpen it myself,i'd most likely hold my own .old 440c baby.lol

I`m new here so I hope you don`t mind me chiming in;
It took me a long time before I figured out how to sharpen a (old) Buck knife.
They do hold an edge....once you get them sharpend correctly.
Gotta love `em! Gotta love the hammer pounding a blade thru a bolt too!
Tom

Do you notice NO other knife of that era or even later is even known for having a good edge even from the factory new???

While there may be areas that one can criticize.......wickedly sharp out of the box is one of the bright spots of even the newest Bucks.

Holding that edge may not measure up to the old 440C standards, but it's still better than the rest and I think most of us accept that concessions had to be made in marketing to a fan base that never learned how to sharpen a 440C knife.
