Buck Knives Impact 898

I just received a nice birthday gift- the Buck Knives Impact 898 in OD Green, in oxide coated S30V.

It was never on my radar but it's an interesting surprise. Does anyone know anything about this knife? The action is smooth enough, but it seems slightly more complicated than necessary. It's by no means a challenge but the whole locking mechanism switch just seems a tad unnecessary.

Otherwise, great steel and ergonomics. I'm curious to hear other opinions.

aesthetics goes a long way. almost anyone can put an edge on a piece of steel, but can you make it look good?

The impact fell off my list a little while ago. I wanted one, but then I became more comfortable with autos. I dislike safeties and find them unnecessary for my carry blade. Past that, Buck did GREAT on the impact.

Who ever gave you the impact for your birthday must like you! It was a very nice gift. My culture has a saying to "use it in good health!"

Thank you for the responses. I will handle and evaluate the knife a little bit more. I agree that it is very good knife, and is aesthetically pleasing. It's nice to be caught off guard with a knife that I didn't know about previously.

See this is where they screwed the pooch, it would be the perfect example of how companies should design modern folders otherwise.
Adding holes and other such crap to a knife just because is stuped and should be illegal.
Nobody would ever complain if it wasn't there, but there are probably lots of people who find it stuped and passed on the knife because of it.
Why in modern folders is it so important for companies to make sure a knife " looks cool " first and foremost ?

Make a functional blade shape, attach it to a functional ergonomic handle, then call it a day.
Do go in add nonsense in an attempt to try and make it " look cool ".

For that kind of money... I'd just get a Protech. I can't say I'm impressed by the design or the price. There's just something very disappointing about the shape of the blade.
