Buck knives question.

I visited the buck website in search of the handle material used on there fixed blades, it says phenolic handle, Micarta is a phenolic, is micarta the material used on such as the buck 118 fixed blade as well as there other fixed blades? I have an older 118 and was wonderin?

Micarta is not a solid plastic but a composite created by impregnating a fabric such as linen with resin. The phenolic handles used on the 100 series knives are solid, not composites. Think pool/billiard balls....SUPER tough.
