Hey guys,

was bumming around a flea market today and found a honing kit No. 133 there. Two stones in a plastic box, completely unused, and with instructions and a full bottle of honing oil as well. Very nice find for about ten bucks.

I take it that the larger stone is the "Washita" mentioned in the instructions and the small one is the hard Arkansas variety? Lately I've become used to sharpening with ceramic hones, so can anyone comment on how well these work?

Pity that I haven't got a single Buck knife to sharpen with these at the moment, though. Maybe I need to fix that in a while. :)

Mine have worked good,I try to not let a knife get dull and touch it up often.I plan to make a strop one day soon.

A pic too if the attachment works. Seems like a nice all around combo really.

Yes, the larger stone is the Washita and the smaller a hard Arkansas. They cut slower than your ceramic and polish as they're a natural stone so lower hardness than man made. DM

Very nice.

If I had it I'd keep it in unused condition just for the pleasure of having it.

You can always sharpen on something else.

The diamond hones on the Buck website work real well, even on the old 440C.

Cheers fellas! I'll have to see about whether I put it to use or not, might reserve it for gift use or somesuch too.

I have used one for years the box is long ago cracked but the stones work great and the oil is some of the best honing oil I have used.
