buck knockoff alert!

I never heard of them, but I think I'm going to order me a few of those $50k sets.:D

Interesting. The Lama with hand engraving shows a quail landing in a pond? I thought that they were land birds. Either way its yours for only $5,750! That's quite a chunk of change for stainless steel.

Same pattern but their not representing it as a Buck, which is the point of alerting folks. If there was an alert every time someone knocked off the 110 the forum would be filled. I gueess new ideas are hard to come by...

Yes,good point,i've seen the same design as a knock off with buck printed on the blade. No other copies of a buck 110 are really just like a 110.Most have quite a few differences. How can they steal a pattern and build their own with no repercussions?I'll stick with the buck its a better bargain!lol

IF Buck is printed on the blade, then somebody better alert the fella's. Most companies don't trademake a pattern. All the last comment was wrong.

How is this possible that an american company would get away with copying the buck zipper model and selling it as their own design?

Famars predatore www.famarsusa.com. have a look at this knife and decide for yourself.

I wish buck could do som ething about this,at $199.00 msrp,i don't think too many will be sold.

I never heard of Famars before this and looking at the website, it's not an American company, Famars is an Italian company with a USA outlet store. Country of origin is not indicated on any of the knives. For comparison, Cabela's sells the Alaskan Guide rubber handled Zipper for $99.99 (and they are on sale right now for $84.99) with a Titanium-nitride coated blade and S30V steel. I would think The USA made Buck Alaskan Guide at Cabela's to be the better deal.

Like Matt said, they aren't claiming it to be a Buck knife so I don't think it's a really big deal. My early Zippers are stamped Pat.Pend. but that was 20 years ago. I can't remember where I read it or the exact wording but Chuck Buck had commented that he didn't mind their knives being copied so much as he did the use of the BUCK name causing people to judge the quality of their own real product based on the BUCK labeled knockoffs.

Here are some comparison pictures. A Buck Zipper over a Chinese counterfit Vanguard. Compare to the Predatore on the right. 3 knives all sharing the same design influences.

I suppose so,there is a canadian tire selling knock off 119 models by tramontina, those look identical to a 119,except for the steel, the steel sucks and should be used for silverware.

Check eBay Australia - there is a 110 knock off doing the rounds at the moment. Believe it or not the brand name is Razorblades.

Don't forget we have a sticky above to report this stuff and it will stay better as a record someone could see and search. Go ahead and feel free to discuss here just make sure you put it there also.

My feeling is it isn't appropriate for posting to the sticky as there is no claim to being a "Buck" knife.

I wouldn't cry knock off just yet. Its not stamped "BUCK" for one so at think worst case its a copy of a design. But... it could have been made BUCK and stamped predatore. Who knows.

Is it at all possible this is a contract piece by Buck for Famars?

I inquired with Famars about the country of origin for the Predatore, the response was...

"Thank you for your interest in FAMARS USA.
All of our knives are made in the USA."
