I have a buck koji, love it but it is just too tight. I would like to loosen the pivot pin a little and would like to know is it a torx or a hex or a spline bolt? Any help would be appreciated

Thanks
Gary

It's a T6 Torx. Before you loosen it, though, check and see how freely the blade moves with the lock sprung back all the way and not contacting the blade. If there is significant difference you might want to leave the pivot alone and just oil it.

Loosening the pivot doesn't have much effect on these knives. The locking leaf puts a lot of pressure on the blade and presses it pretty tightly against the inside of the opposing handle liner. The friction will cause quite a bit of drag on the blade.

A good lube such as Militec-1, Tuff-Glide or White Lightning will help but if It's still too tight, I would recommend sending it to Buck for adjustment.

Gary,
I would agree with Dennis. If it does not loosen up after a little use and some good lubricant, send it in and we will fix it under warrantee.
Take care,

Thank you everyone, I gave the knife to my son for Xmas and he has been carrying it since then. The first .25 inches are very difficult to open. After that it is OK. He tried themb flicking it and could do it but it is difficult to the point that it abraded the skin. I will check it out this weekend, try what Dennic suggested and go from there. Thanks again

I gave one to my step-father-in-law very early on.

He likes it, but the ball-detent holding the blade shut is so tight no one can open it one-handed (neither me, who is not strong but very dexterous, nor him, who is not too dextrous but strong as hell).

This is after I lubed/cleaned it.

Might want to consider adjusting/tapping that ball detent in a little further so it doesn't stay closed so strongly.

Ooooooh.

Sorry -- I meant that as a passing remark to the Buck manufacturing folks, not to you.

:(

I didn't want to (or couldn't figure out how to) disassemble that one so he's still using it two-handed.

Heh.
