Buck/ leatherman

Funny that you should think of that. I carry a Leatherman and a Buck, For some reason I think of my Buck as my knife and the Leatherman as everything but a knife even though it has two blades on it. I've only used the serrated blade once because I didn't what to mess up by Buck blade. Been carrying both for years.

When Tried out a Leatherman wave as an edc, I stopped carrying my Buck. I never minded the blades on the Leatherman

In fact I liked having two blades, one plain one serated.

I went back to my 110’s fairly quickly. I was afraid I’d electrocute myself at work trying to do something quick instead od going to get the correct insulated pliers.

Off the job, I never really needed to tools. When I did they always fell a little short and were uncomfortable for long use.

My conclusion I like dedicated tools. Multitools are best for travel and survival type kits.

I think that the knife blade in a multi-tool is the weak link, mostly from the perspective of ergonomics. I don't care for a rectangular block of steel with a blade at one end.

I agree with Eveled, multi-tools are great things to have, when you can't bring your toolbox. Otherwise, I just walk back to the truck and get the proper tool.

Yep that’s what I do, use my Buck knife for cutting and my leathermam for the tools. Leathermans 420hc needs some work as I’ve used mine and it chips so it been reduced to the lowly task as a paint remover/ gasket scraper. Lol. Maybe if Buck did the blades that would be better.

Same here, keep a 110 slim pro in my pocket for cutting and the blade on my surge gets used to scrape, shave drywall and other abusive tasks. Even when nice and sharp and used for regular knife duties, it just doesn’t hold an edge like Buck’s 420

I need to train myself to reach for my Leatherman for a knife blade instead of one of the three SAK I also carry (Mini Champ, Evo Grip 14, and Hercules) or the stockman and/or whatever else is in my rfp (the Mini Champ rides in my watch pocket. The other two SAK and the LM are on my belt.) and/or my Toferner neck knife.
This Friday ---> Friday pocket carry is a Rough Rider RR603 XL yellow stockman and Rough Rider RR1287 yellow "Half Hawk"/or "Loom Fixer" pattern. (Both were made prior to the "Rough Ryder" spelling or name change.)

My Leatherman (Charge+ TTI) has S30V blade or blades. (I'm not sure if the serrated with gut-hook blade is S30V or 420HC)
I'm sure Buck's BOS heat treat is better, but is it enough of an improvement to warrant an additional price premium for a "Buck" tang stamp and/or BOS blade etch, on top of the premium charged for the existing S30V blades, which seem to have a good heat treat?

It might be more cost effective for Leatherman to send their blades to BOS for heat treat or continue to heat treat inhouse, but to Mr. BOS' specifications, like Buck does, rather than use a Buck made blade in the same steels Leatherman is already using.

I keep forgetting that I have a Bucktool. I guess I need to get it out and try it for a while. I will admit that I’m partial to the LM Wave for simple function and the outbooard tools are very handy. The Bucktool will take some getting used to as it opens differently but it might be just as good. It is a bit lighter weight.

On another note I also have the LM Signal and the blade is more bushcrafty if you will. It’s thicker and more scandi ground but it cuts good. I carry it outdoors activities and so far I really like it.
