What's the review on the Buck pilot/mantis knives?

Had a Pilot. There are many better knives for the money from Buck and other makers.

I have one and I like it. It is on par with the Gerber Paraframe and the BM Monochrome.

I've only had a Pilot, not a Mantis. It was uncomfortable to hold, clunky to open, and I didn't like the plastic backspacer. The Vantage series from Buck are a good bit nicer. Spyderco Byrds, too.

I have one and I like it. It is on par with the Gerber Paraframe and the BM Monochrome.

The Monochrome N690 blade holds an edge way longer than the Chinese alloy used in the Buck. Buck says the Chinese alloy is on a par with 420HC. N690 is on a par with VG10 and 154CM in edge retention.

So basically the Mantis/pilot are crap knives from what i am hearing..?

Not crap--there are just much better offerings for the money.

For bucks lower end knives i just use for edc, the mantis/pilot seem cool because of their slim profile...and they do seem sturdy for the price..seems like u can get them for next to nothing on online auction sites....
