Does anybody know any thing about the Buck Master Survival Knife, I think it was made in the 80's, Buck said US Navy Seals were going to use it. Is this a quality knife or just another hollowed handled survival knife.

I checked out that knife a while back when it was in a knife store, and it felt extremely heavy for what it was.

I think it was a knife that could only survive during the Rambo craze of the 80's. :)

I had one for a long time. Never used it except to play around with. Mine was a Buck/Phobus III model and I have traded it off and can't think of any reason why someone would want one except for the looks...It was big and heavy and would make a Ramboite go nuts just from the looks.

Get a Camillus Becker Brute if you want a big knife that will last for a very long time.

LOL!

I had one of these. Took it 'bush' a couple of times then GAVE it to a friend who was into RAMBO and such.

Way too heavy! If you want a fantastic survival knife, get a Gronhamm No 4. Simplicity at it's best, light, excellent slashing / cutting design and just the right size....

Keep clear of the Buckmaster - they were just going with the flow.

By the way, the 'anchors' were suppose to be for utilising the knife as a grappling hook. I tried this and after several hundred attempts - laughed and laughed and laughed. (More so at the point that I may have thought it could have been) hahhahahah - NOT!

I bought a Buckmaster when they first came out years ago. Took it backpacking a couple of times and din't like it. Big thick blade didn't cut all that well and if you get one dull, they are a SOB to sharpen. Way too heavy to carry. Don't waste your hard earned dollars on one of these, they make a better boat anchor!
