Buck/Mayo clip screw

Hi, when I first got my Buck/Mayo (the ti version,) the clip was to shallow to allow for the thick seam on my levis...and after paying almost $300 for a knife I didn't want to spend more money and wait for however long it would take to be repaired. So I decided to keep it as a "dress knife." Well recently I've been wanting to use and carry it, so I figured why spend 7 or 8 bucks on shipping and wait 2 weeks when I could spend 5 minutes and have it done. I loosened the first screw with no problem but the second screw stripped partially. I was able to get it off and adjust the clip but I can't get it screwed in all the way now. I was wondering if I could get a replacement screw?

TIA,
Steve

Steve,

I just picked one of the TNT's up on trade and noticed that the clip is a little loose, it slips back and forth about a 1/32 of an inch. I tried to tighten it but the star screws won't budge, and even started to strip. Did you have any luck with a replacement screw?

Thanks

Kevin

i lost one of my Mayo clip screws and just replaced them with two out of another knife. a S/W pocket protector. worked just fine. the new ones are a little smaller but work. (heads that is) got lucky on the thread size. :D

Nope, not yet. I'm not being in too much of a rush Because I know they're in the process of moving. I figure I'll wait another week or so and email them.

What is a good way to get the screws out that hold the clip on when they are held by blue Locktite? and the head is starting to strip?

Thanks

Screws are 2-56 & Blue loctite is not a very strong adhesive

www.halperntitanium.com has them readily avialable for very cheap

If you are having a problem with the clip here are some hints.

#1 It needs to have the end BENT up a bit, its just too flat the way it is.

#2 The whole thing could be BENT up a bit, its awfully tight.

#3 If you get some screws from Halperns, grind/cut them to be longer than the ones it comes with, then the stripping problem will go away.

Well I got the clip screws out, it was a lot of work but I got them out. One of them was in pretty bad shape. I bought some 2-56 screws to test the holes out to see if there were any problems. When I try a new screw, it feels like it is cross threading, but its not. When I take the new screw out the threads are pretty much gone.

Should I re-tap the hole to make sure its cleaned up? Will a regular tap cut the titanium?

Any ideas on how to make sure I get this right the first try would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Kevin
