Buck Mayo TNT and Northshore problems

Hi,

First off let me say that I'm a big fan of Tom's designs and work.

However, I'm having some issues with my Buck Mayo TNT and Northshore with the blade being off center when closed. When viewed from above, both knives exhibit the same off center (to the right) blade positioning. Kinda bugs me as the TNT's blade is rubbing against the titanium frame when I close it and scratches are appearing in the S30V.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Any fixes? I tried changing the washers to phosphor bronze -but that didn't help.

Any recommendations?

Thanks!

i used to have a buck TNT and the blade was centered when closed, so, no i haven't experienced this problem, and no it's not normal.

i wouldn't mess with the washers. in fact, i wouldn't mess with it at all, i would just send it back to buck and they'll make it right. their turnaround time is generally very good.

or tighten the pivot bolt more. but i'm assuming you've already tried that.

sorry i can't be more of a help.

I would send it back to Buck's customer service also. I once sent back an old Model 500, that my Pop gave me years ago, to have the handle scales rivets tightened up. They had a very fast turnaround and didn't cost me anything; even 20 some odd years after it was made. Their customer service department is very, very, very good.

Tom did a post about this in the Buck forum a while ago. Loosen the pivot and push the blade TOWARDS the side it is off-center to. A search function might turn up the thread.

According to Tom Mayo, the cure for the 172 is simple. Open it, and then push the blade in the same direction that it leans toward when closed. No need to mess with the washers, and you don't need to loosen the pivot. I did it to my 172, and it worked.
