Buck Mayo TNT carbon, two questions

Two quick Q's for owners of the carbon-fiber version of the Buck 172. First, does the carbon scale have texture (in pictures it looks like it might be slightly rough, like G10), or is is smooth? Secondly, how does the lightness of the handle affect the balance? I've found some knives with very light handles (a large Griptilian, for example) to have an unpleasant blade-heavy balance to them. Is this this case with Buck?

TIA.

Answers to your questions:

(1) handle is smooth
(2) does not feel blade-heavy, knife is nicely balanced, actually the whole knife is light and slim, very suitable for pocket carry

It's a nice knife, go for it!

I agree on both points.

It is a really nice knife. Probably the smoothest action I've ever had on a production folder, and I've owned CRK's to Striders. It's one of the few knives that I haven't let go, simply because it is so unique.

For an EDC, I'd take this over a Sebbie any day. (and I do)

I'd agree with the two replies above. While I don't carry mine very often it's a wonderful knife.

I love my all ti TNT and want the cf variant, but can't justify the price jump for 1 slim milled piece of cf. Definitely love the looks though! TNT does have insanely smooth action, but is no where near as easy to disassemble and assemble compared to the Seb.

Thanks for the replies. I can understand the virtue of lightness for edc, but I guess I also equate (to some degree) weight with price and quality. Also, the only other carbon fiber folder I've owned (a SOG) was a real piece of crap. CF can sometimes feel really high-tech and high-quality, or it can sometimes just feel like plastic.

Those of you who prefer the 172 to the Sebenza, what are your reasons? I guess it sits thinner in the pocket -- is there something else? Overall the small Seb seems more compact. Thanks again.

FWIW the Buck is 1/4" longer than the Small Sebenza both in blade and overall length yet it's .5oz lighter. A quarter inch isn't much difference either way. A half an ounce isn't either though when your only talking about a 3oz knife to begin with (the Sebenza) it's little more than if you're talking about a 5-6oz model.

I carry both the Buck and the small Sebenza and have no particular preference one over the other. In terms of fit and finish Sebenza is superior but the Buck is a nice knife in its own right. I agree with Badhammer above, the Buck is lighter and thinner, a plus if you carry other stuff in your pockets or inconspicuous carry is important to you.
