hey guys whats up? i have a buck/mayo tnt 172, i really like it, its beautiful, has perfect fit and finish, perfect size, i love it. but i dont love the framelock on it, it really stiff to point if i open and close it a few times it starts to hurt my finger. is it possible to make it less stiff? can i cut away more of the lockbar?(the part towards the bottom where there is a little chunk cut out to make the bar go sideways) anyways any help would be greatly appreciated because i love this knife but i just hate that part about it. thanks again!

I happen to be carring that exact model today.

First see if the pocket clip is putting additional presure on the lock, it may be, and you could take the clip off and bend it out a bit.

Secondly I don't think it would be a good idea to notch the lock bar. Rather, you could carefully try or overbend the lock side away from the other scale. I'd disassembled it first though so it's easier to get access to and less change you get cut.

I'm sure more guys will chime in , but personally I'd let the lock naturally break in. If it's a TI framelock it should get easier to unlock as time goes by.

If you mean the pivot is too stiff you can loosen it a little or lube it ( or both). If you're not happy with any aspect of the functionality call Buck...

usually the problem that ive noticed on framelocks is that the rest of your fingers are putting too much pressure against the lock when you try to open the knife.
this makes the detent extra hard to break.

it occured to me when i noticed it so much easier to open framelocks with my left hand.

btw. everytime i get a new knife my thumbs always get a little sore. cuz im fiddling around with it so much.
if you think about it, you've cycled that knife like 16 times within a span of 5 mins.
when you settle down it'll be 6 or so cycles over the whole day.

Midget, yes, thanks for the great deal!

I probably gonne sent it to STR for a little modding, but in the mean time it's really a quite decent knife.

thanks guys, i did have the problem at first that my other fingers were putting pressure on the lockbar so i dont do that anymore. but it still is really hard, i dunno i hope it gets a little easier as time goes on.

My Buck TNT came the same way.I pushed the frame lock very carefully in the opposite direction. You must use a lot of care when doing this because if you over bend it you will have problems.I had the same problem with one of my Sebenza's.I'm sure Chris Reeves would'nt reccommend it but it worked for me.Also there were many complaints of the clip being so tight on the Buck TNT.Unscrew it,take 2 pliers and very slowly bend the end where the screws go in.Again use the same precaution with this you do'nt want to overbend.

The TNT is expensive and Buck has an excellent Warranty, I would contact the manufacturer before touching or bending anything. But that's only because I tend to make things worse.....

Hey Robb, nothing to do with this thread, but your email isn't working , I did send you a reply to a message you sent me... but it bounced back

Rub some pencil lead on the sticking point of the lock. It will help the lock from sticking some.
