Hello. I recently came into another Buck Mayo TNT after having given my first one to a good friend. The original had a really solid lock up. This one looks like the bar barely gets under the tang. Will this sort itself out with some use and wear? Or should i send it in to get it tweaked by Buck? Or should i even be worried about it? I have just never seen a bar engage so faintly on a framelock or liner lock.

If the lockup is solid then I wouldn’t worry. As the lock wears it will move over. Having it further over to the side will just give the knife a longer life. As long as enough of the tang is engaged now your fine.

Have you given it a good flick? When I take apart my Sebenza for cleaning and put it back together, the lock doesn't engage fully until you give it a good flick open. That sets the lock back to normal.

Can you take a photo for us?

Many collectors, including myself, think that the proper place for a new framelock to start is with 50% of the bar on the tang, with 50% free. This amount gives plenty of lockup without advancing the wear of the lock unnecessarily. This can vary given the thinness of the lockbar though.

+1

Worked wonders on a few blades that the lock wasn't as good as it should have been.

thanks for the responses. I tried to take some pics, but my crappy camera doesn't seem to have an off option for the flash. So all the close ups are all whited out. Anyway, the bar engages at about 1/4 if i flick it open. About 1/5 if i just open it normally. Problem with flicking it open is that then it sticks like a mother. Just about rips your thumbnail off trying to disengage it. That cannot be right, and it sure isnt the way the first one worked. So off to Buck for some tweaking i think. Hopefully they can sort it. I love the TNT. I am so very pleased to have one back in my possession.
