thinking about getting buck/mayo approx $160-170 right now bm 721 main edc really no problems with bm721 serves purpose but buck/mayo s30v,less weight I think might be step up for edc. anybody have or had both at 1 time? wondering if worth it get buck/mayo do you think it would be that much of upgrade from bm721 actually love axis lock on 721

actually see somebody else is considering buck/mayo (buck/mayo vs domminator) looking at that thread looks like buck/mayo good feedback so far

I had a BM720 about a year ago that I sold off and now I EDC a Buck/Mayo. Never had them both at the same time to compare them, though. The Buck is definitely a lot lighter--I barely even notice that it's there. I'd say that the handle on the BM is a lot more comfortable because it fills the hand more, but that also means that it (720) is bulkier in the pocket. That's also not to say that the Buck handle isn't comfortable, but the corners could use some smoothing out on the one that I have. Both are extremely sharp, but the Buck edges out the 720 in steel, but ATS34/154CM is one of my favorite steel types so it's not like the steel is bad on the BM. I also think that I prefer the thinner blade of the Buck over the 720. The BM wins hands down in the lock department because of the axis lock (Buck is frame lock). The tip on the blade is a bit higher than I'd like on both knives, but it didn't really hamper me. I've seen the Buck drop as low as $140 on the forums and it's definitely worth the money. I paid $150 and it was well worth what I paid. You might also want to check out the passaround forum for the reviews in the Buck/Mayo passaround thread. If you can--just go and pick one up and mess around with it--that's the best way to choose.

For me, the Buck Mayo is the nicest sub-$200 edc available for "the masses." It is not made to be a work-horse but is an excellent medium duty blade. Mine is considerably modified to make it to my liking but they are great right off the shelf.
(I have no doubts that the Dominator or such would take more abuse but it seems that more people carry blades that are about 3" for daily use.)

If you are abusive with your knife, the BM would probably be better. If you want the superior cutter, choose the Buck. Both have the same blade thickness at the spine (and about the same length), but the Buck has a high hollow grind, with a thinner edge than the BM.

The steel is better with the Buck, although in real life the difference might not be as obvious as you might expect.

Axis or framelock, personal preference. I have both (although not the 721), they both work.

The Buck is my EDC. I hardly notice it, it is slim and very light.

thats practically exactly what I was going to say. I did have both knives at one point but the BM got traded off. The BM handle is indeed pretty comfortable it's actually a bit bigger then a lot of the other BM handles with similar blade lengths. The one thing that bugged me about the BM was the blade to handle ratio, the blade seemed too short for a handle of that size
